Another point does anybody have a good sugestion of where to look in renfrew/ottawa area for larger bags of salt, buying it in 2 and 4kg boxes is a pain

I buy my salt in 20K bags from our local Independent Grocery. One of the good things about buying salt in bulk is that is inexpensive. Salt has a myriad of uses and our bodies require it. If there was a serious SHTF situation, depending on your location, there may be a serious salt shortage. So it makes sense to stock up now. It will keep almost indefinitely.

Now one use you may consider is for barter. A 20kg bag broken into sandwich bag portions would make a great barter item!

Go to any bulk food store and ask the manager to special order for you. The salt comes in 25 kg plastic bags and is cheaper then the posted prices on their public bins. Buy course sea salt if your goal is food preservation. It doesn't have any additives and you can always grind it for the table. It will cost you about 50 cents/lb. Very affordable. You can order anything they have this way.

Any pool supply store 20kg $7-10/bag suppossed to be most pure becuase it has metals and impurities removed. A couple bags of that would last a life time. it does go hard after a while but break it up and it is fine again. Same thing with baking soda very cheap and it is also food grade it is about $15/20kg bag

We have a lot of salt in our food today, but that may not be the case in a TSHTF situation. Some symptoms of salt deficiency can include weakness and dizziness, nausea, even heart failure it it gets too bad.

That's why salt is worth its weight in gold and everyone should have it. Including me, I don't have nearly enough stocked up, going to the store tonight I think.

Watersoftener salt is my choice. Mostly because of its purity but also because I often stock lots for the softener anyhow.

Did you know that at one time salt was on par with gold. With the old saying "He aint worth his weight in salt" when salt was at the bottom of the value scale.

One part salt two three parts water mixed in a spray bottle is a great natural weed killer. It also stops weeds growing back too.
