Again I agree. But your missing my point I think, maybe you're an optimist, but they will come knocking if they aren't killed or die of starvation first. That would bring them to come just not knowing what's inside, the possibility of salvation behind a closed door. Not to mention when you squad up, they won't be dumb enough to not notice a barricaded, well manned house. Screams food to me....just sayin'. But good luck non-the-less. My point is you'll have to take care of them, wether they have preemptive plans due to leaked or provide intel, or they just have a suspicion. So again, it doesn't matter if you tell all or none.
hi all,
my thoughts on this is to physcially meet with ppl out of my living area, this dimishes any chance of threat from within the community i live and increases my odds of survival by talking, planning, thinking sharing with like minded and about what is to befall us all, so c'mon y'all beyond niagara area! pm me, lol
You are correct without a doubt, but seems to me it's next to impossible to seek out and convince people in public. Due to time constraints, I rather hop on the net and find like minded, beginner or veteran preppers, that are ready to go, contribute, have done research and have the knowledge to be of use immediately. Theres nothing worse that babysitting a sheep and holding their hand as they walk through the valley. Maybe 5 years ago. But not now, time is running out.
Actually Aries, I do see your point. Just so you know, I live in the city but that's not where our supplies are located. I and those in my group keep only our bug out kit in town. We'll be headed out to my cabin (and yes we do have a plan to get there). You would have to almost be standing on the doorstep of the cabin before you realized it was there. The security has been set up by military people who have been there and done that in more than one war zone. I'm pretty confident that we'll manage to get by somehow.

That's good. Depending on the initiator of shtf, if your transport consists of anything less than a helicopter, good luck getting the distance by transport, roads may be blocked off, and depending on the distance, consider brig able to travel invisibly, concealed and silent by foot. I don't know what equipment you have but I doubt, on foot, that you will have enough leverage to engage a military or riot police road block. It's not about the level of training of the opponents, it's the sheer number. I honestly wish the best of luck to you. I've researched and tested the heck out of the "bug-out" op, and it's honestly a very see-through option, of course it depends on equipment, vehicle options and number of participants. But I'm equipped for that. The best thing for anyone to do, through yourself into a scenario with say me for example and I'll be the bad news and try my best to shoot you down while you try to follow through with the "plan". Of course there will be a lot of "what if this happens, then this, then that", but if kept serious and bound to the laws of this planet, and you have the skill of improv...you should be able to endure. Just food for thought.
We don't have a helicopter so you're right, we may be hooped. We do however, have plans and contingency plans. We have routes that should help us avoid roadblocks and if necessary routes for foot travel. We are very aware that no amount of planning and preparation is a 100% guarantee of success, but doing nothing guarantees a 100% chance of failure. We've brainstormed and gone through a lot of what ifs but in the end all we can do is our best and hope our timing is right. It's all anyone can do.

Very true.
Build an armored transport? Pretty simple To do with any ordinary SUV, just ties up a fair amount of finances
Actually, ARIES, that just reminded me about something my brother told me awhile back.
He said that he once saw an article about RHINO Liner (the spray on truck bed liner). In the article, they sprayed RHINO liner on a piece of 34 inch plywood and then fired a rifle (I don't know the calibre) at the back side. The bullets chewed up the plywood but didn't penetrate through the liner. I wonder how it would work on the inside of body panels. Methinks I feel an experiment in the making.

Haha sounds likes an idea. I think I saw it on mythbusters or something. It's not crash proof if you paint a whole car in it, but it does take small impacts without denting the doors and panels. As well, I'm sure you can do several ballistics tests but due to the science of the matter, I don't think the material (depending on thickness) has any bullet resistant properties. No more than any tire. From my research, the cheapest way to make a vehicle bullet resistant in a moments time, is to make a Kevlar "car cover" for the vehicle. Weight for a 10 layered cover would way around 20 pounds or something. I forget my numbers, but have been in weapons development and design, I considered creating it for police officers. They just pull it out of their trunk and drop it over. Or some type of unit built into the rear bumper, and like awning, it would pull up and out over the vehicle.
Anyways good luck, let me know. If it works I'll go get my supra sprayed inside and out!
Good luck with the RHINO liner. Maybe stop a .22 or shotgun. I was sighting in a .308. At 150 yds it will pass through 10" of solid oak (a log) AND then halfway through a concrete block.
If the hoards really wanted to stop your car, would they shoot at it? Why not road blocks and ambushes, spike strips or caltrops are more effective and easily made. Hell, run a steel cable across the road between two trees and watch cars become convertables and drivers decapitated in a heart beat. I don't think home made armour would really help, but it would make you stand out.
If you wanted to increase the reliability of a car to get your to a BOL, wouldn't you be better off just getting run flat inserts for your tires and a good 4x 4 with good ground clearance to drive offroad where possible and when necessary? Better yet a motocross bike to drive around problems, or better yet a nice quiet bycicle ridden in the dark and carried cross country to get around any problems. If you gotta move, don't be seen. Yes? No?

If the "hoards" want what you have in your vehicle they would likely shoot at it only if they thought you were getting away. Road blocks and ambushes would be far more effective. Chances are though, they would be near towns and on main roads. My vehicle evac route stays miles from any urban centers and for the most part, on back roads. As for cables strung across the road, damage would depend on speed. My groups convoy is to have a max speed of 70 km/h, not because of cables but because it would suck to come over a hill or around a corner right into a large pile-up. For ambushes, we've adopted the tactics I learned in Afganistan for vehicle convoys.
I and several others in my group do have 4X4's. Unfortunately, not everyone in the group has one, so for the most part off road isn't feasible. Even if we all had 4X4's there are a couple of rivers that can only be crossed by bridge or boat so a lot of off road wouldn't really be practical. We do what we can.
When it comes to armour, I certainly wouldn't make it obvious. I use my 4X4 all the time and people on city streets would look at me kind of funny. I haven't armoured my truck because to make it effective would add too much weight and gas is expensive.
Not all plans are foolproof but without an armoured regiment to support us, we'll have to try stealth and trust that we have enough of our bases covered.

I have a nosy landlord. She comes into my home when I'm not here. Denies it, but she leaves little traces... a roach, cobwebs that miraculously disappear, opening or closing doors, that sort of thing, so I have no privacy as it were... my stash is her stash. Please. I know it's illegal for her to enter my premises as such, but as the OPP say, "if you don't have hard core proof there's nothing we can do about it."
Got any ideas folks, other than buying a $200 video camera that I would only need for one day?

Search for "game camera" on ebay. For under $100 you can get a used one. Look for another place to live, even if you rat out the rat, you'll be moving.
Thanks Perfesser. It's interesting how we interpret, deny, discard and and eventually respond to any given situation. I don't want to leave "my home" even though the circumstances have been horrendous. Bottom line. Territorial.
I suppose if I buy the camera I can use it, sell it, hopefully recupe $$ and, she can pay my moving fees?
If life was that simple.
