This opening article is in honour of a man who started a long time ago building fallout shelters. His name is Bruce Beach and he live's up in Horning Mills, ON. The man is now in his 80's, he has blown a fortune building his shelter and even more fighting the government. A shelter that is a community underground, with water, power, a hospital, kitchen, and a sleeping area for 200 people. This man has done it and has paid the price of ridicule. Look it up on Goggle. Ark II, and Santa Doom
Following is an article written by the man. Ladies and Gentlemen, Bruce Beach.

ARK TWO

Anyone is welcome to join the Ark Two Survival Community (located in Ontario, Canada) - so long as they do so before the catastrophe occurs. The Ark Two Community is founded and commanded by a government trained and certified Radiological Scientific Officer.

The purpose of the Ark Two Survival Community is to ameliorate the effects of a Nuclear War and to help reorganize society afterwards. The community founder believes that a nuclear war is inevitable and therefore in 1980 built the first phase of the Ark Two Refuge and has since expanded it and prepared many ways to assist survivors - as listed on this web site.

The project has not been favorably received by the local and provincial governments. By 1990, when I stopped counting, it had been subject to over 30 court and commission appearances and that number has greatly increased in the years that followed. Legal costs mounted to hundreds of thousands of dollars. In 1999 there was a raid without warrants involving 7 police vehicles, 4 fire units and over 40 personnel and a K-9 unit, coincidentally caught on video tape by the CBC. Subsequently the facility was hounded with repeated government inspections. Some of the inspectors candidly admitted that it was just harassment, but because of wanting to keep their jobs they of course were not going to put that into writing. It is for this reason that one might refer to the facility as Waco North. A kinder, gentler Canadian version in that The Ark doesn't have any weapons and in that so far no one has been killed by the raiders.

The general public views the project as being operated by an eccentric (in the most favorable terms) or by a nut-case in what is the more usual expressed attitude. For the forty years in which I have built over two dozen shelters and have consulted on many dozens of others, the general ridicule has been extensive, to say the least. "Why do it then?", I have often been asked. Why not get a life, enjoy life and quit worrying about doomsday? The answer is that I don't see the purpose of life, nor happiness in life measured in how many rounds of golf I might play, but rather in service to my fellowman. While I don't have any "visions" or hear any "voices" this appears to me to be a service to which I have been called.

Still, the shelter remains. Waiting and ready. It has been welded shut by the government but that has only made it secure. If the need arises it can be immediately opened and activated. Equipment and supplies are stored and ready. Members of the Ark Two Community meet regularly and each know their tasks and responsibilities in activating it. We continue to review and improve upon the plans and equipment. We continue to seek others who are interested in the project and can help with it.

As Mr Beach said this was only ment as a shelter, were as if I had the money, it would have been shipping containers, much bigger. Mind you he got this shelter built with 40, $400 school buses a load of rebar and a lot of concrete. It is a bomb/fallout shelter. But he got it done.

i've been getting his news letters for years. i'm on the list to get in, but as my preps and knowledge has grown, i'm not planning on showing up. subscribe to his news letter and get a feel for who he is and his goals. you may like what he's doing, you may not. . .

but once inside it will be run like a ship (the boss is the boss) i have no problem with that, my place would be running the same 🙂

survivalist are usually the out come of strong personalities and are driven to THEIR goal. if you goal is a little different, that is a disagreement before STRONG personalities. that's why i caution everyone on trying to build a group with those they don't really KNOW.

bruce has done a LOT, and i mean A LOT of work, i'm not sure i could follow his lead in an under ground shelter.
i do like his principles, but there can be only one leader 🙂 (which may not always be me, but i need to agree with the leader of any community to be a good member of it!)

hinted in other postings.I am logger with Crown lic for timber .. also build log homes / cabins .In many styles, and price ranges ,For the cheaper way for some. I might suggest pice in pice style of building ,take it from my yard,in sections and erect it yourself .We also have a portable sawmill .will do custom cutting and milling anywhere in ontario.and the building designing if needed . Will sell lumber and timbers .Also have a wienke diamond drill , which i can put a water well in anywhere ,only puts a 2" hole down200-400 ft .we also have other types of equipmennt that make building in the wilderness no problems... . possible barter for our services in land.. I have bought land.logged it , and created a few hunting camps that are liveable and resold, lots of experience in making outdoor wilderness locations work for off grid living ,wood heat propane lights ,fridge ,propane generater for any hydro needs ,IE Water pumping ..but a farmers windmill moves alot of water, our pioneer ancestors used them for 100s of years as well a hand pump works great too ... OH Bye the way log homes are the hardest home to catch fire, shutter the windows,, and iam talking a log dewling in the bush, were the worst of society will never find, pick a area with good water(lakes / rivers ) and game ( Meat ), Build a Green house , looks after food source ,and water. and wood for heat..What more could a person want Pm me if anyone needs info....Logger

I think theres some good info in his post, regardless if it sounds like a sales pitch. Not like its the first and only post... I will most likely build a small cabin this year and I think there should be a section for people on this forum to post services offered for instance. I am an electrician myself and would be willing to barter services if It saved me money. Just my thoughts.

You could have a good point, with the proper controls and place for it, it could be a successful section. We're all probably able bodied for something or other. Let the moderator know, or whom ever has the power to make it happen. I'm pretty sure it's currently against the guidlines is it not?

i agree with you fully buddy. i would go one step further and set up a 'trading' thread.....so youve got two diesel generators, but need a water pump...trade one up...

Fall out shelters and nuclear bunkers like the Arc 2 are great but the question is would you really want to survive a full scale global nuclear exchange? Multi-century radiation filled nuclear winters don't sound like a lot of fun.
