Freeze beans too - even if you are vacuum sealing...bugs are gross and I don't care what anyone says about them being extra protein - GROSS!
I wonder if you can do that for rice. Although it hasn't happened in years, twice I have ended up with a house full of moths from my rice. Both times it happened it was within weeks of buying the rice.
OH YES! Beans, rice, grains of any kind. Freeze for a few days and then leave it out to "warm up" before you package it for LTS. I just had an experience with bugs in my white beans - I am packaging them up and sending them to JustABear!
Hmmm.. Can I get the EXTRA Savoury coating please? Double crisp..... YUMMMMmmmm!!!!!!!

I am keeping you away from my crickets 😯
Crickets...? CRICKETS?? Don't tease me please
I like to freeze my flour in rubbermade containers in a snow bank outside the back door for a couple days...Never had a problem with bugs since I started doing this. Any grain product will have eggs on it. It is the hatching of the eggs that causes an infestation, not an outside source. Freezing the grain for a couple days will kill the eggs and prevent them from hatching...gross I know, but we've all been eating bug eggs all our lives, so no biggie there. I will unfortunately have to keep using flour until I can get a grain mill and a good(read cheap and local) source of unground wheat.
Curious. I have wondered if it is possible to buy bulk grain... wheat etc... from a mill. IE a feed mill. They have it in bags and should be the same product you would get from a "supplier". Just closer to the source.
JAB...I would have to confirm this, but from what I hear "feed grain" is not the same as food grade product. Not sure what the difference would be though, maybe just a Health Canada stamp. Anyone have some insight into this? As I live in a fairly rural area, feed grain is easy to come by, as close as the nearest coop "feed n seed".

I don't know about grains but my grandfather told me that cattle corn can be eatten by people but it is tuff, dry and will give you a lot of gas. It could also make you sick. But if you have nothing else, it is better then going hungry.
I know this is off topic about grains, but the talk of bugs made me want to point out that bugs are super nutritious, i hate admitting this being a man and all but i hate the look of bugs, i was dared to eat a chocolate cricket once but that was as extreme as i would go lol (tasted like a chocolate covered potatoe chip) but any ways just saying that for people who have more of an issue with how bugs looks then actually eating them, you can dry them out and grind them into a powder that should store fairly well and can be added to other foods to enhance nutritional value or add flavour, just a suggestion for the brave, desperate or adventurous lol 😉

One word would sum this up.....
BARF
...and welcome to the forum
Bugs are an issue in part because they eat the food but the biggest issue is there waste (poop).
I don't mind the protein as long as it was not in my grains.
Reminder to self - store more beans...if all there is to eat are bugs you can shoot me. lol!
