Today I was awake by 2 people stealing stuff from my attic. One was my sister and her friend. I tried to stop him from taking the stuff out and was assaulted in the process. I called the police and when they got there they talked with my sister first on the way in. She is a former probation officer but still is in possession of her badge. When the police come in and I told them what happened. They said that if I pressed charges on the person that assaulted me that I would be charged. They also wouldn't charge my sister with break and enter or theft. ALL BECAUSE SHE FLASHED HER BADGE TO THE COPS.
This in case your wondering is the Thessalon detachment of the OPP.
So even if you are woke up by thieves, assaulted and had numerous things stolen from your house you can't do anything if one of the thieves holds a badge!!
I care for my father here and because of that I had to wait for him to return in order for the cops to make her give the stuff back, the fact that I pay rent here has no bearing on anything!! All because she flashed her badge.
Finally my father did return and to make a long story short TD the cops that she was not allowed here and that stuff stayed here. So it was all brought back into the kitchen. But still no charges laid!!
There is no law in this country when those that are in power( and their accomplices ) can do anything they want with no repercussions!!

It always becomes a sticky issue when the person enters has a key to gain access. Family matters are always tricky and domestics can often get dangerous fast for the officer as folks switch sides without logical reasoning and the P/O can get ganged up on.
Yes, badge holders look out for one another and do so because they expect the same in turn should they ever need it. It is wrong and unfair but still a fact of life. That's how come you rarely hear of a P/O getting arrested for impaired. This only happens when they want the individual gone or when there are too many witnesses to ignore the event, especially if there are injuries. I saw a lot of such things occur in my time as likely most officers did and it was from eventually challenging this system that led to my quitting the force too.
In later years, I even reflected that the court systems had such biases and game changers that played out to manipulate the system too. Television leads you to believe that the prosecutors and the defense lawyers are sworn enemies but that is not the truth at all. Most see each other daily and even coffee and lunch together from time to time. They go thru a ritualistic routine that they can often recite in their sleep as it becomes that repetitive. Concessions are usually made to make each appear as if they performed their tasks so well as you perceive they were worth the expense. Yet at times they might have refrained from pressing a winning point just to gain favor later for some other case favor wherein it is then returned. We are but pawns in schemes that might benefit us this round or as easily condemn us too. Your fate lies in the hands of others once you step onto their turf! This is likely why most folks despise lawyers and these connivers often decide to later pursue politics so they can then screw over many more on their way to the top!
I know what you mean. I've seen the court inner workings more than I care to admit. But no she doesn't have a key and she is not wanted here. But why I wrote this is to show people the power of the badge. And my sister hasn't worked as a probation officer for over 5 years now but still has the badge. She says she is sick. But when she can do cement work for about a week straight then no she is not sick!! She is playing the system. Just when she did when her son was born. My parents raised that child and my sister collected money from the government saying she was raising him. For years she collected it and never gave my parents a cent. When my mother died she stold over $15000 and the cops never did anything.
Peoe with any type of a badge have the power to do most anything. CANADA IS CORRUPT!!!!
But not yet as corrupt as the U.S. but getting there.
People have to learn to say NO Not handle it with violence but just say NO we have had enough. We have to start going smaller. Not bigger. We have to have each community care for itself. No more federal government. A small community has a better chance at survival than bigger cities. Staying small is what we save us in the end.

What kind of stuff where they trying to take
It always becomes...
Your remarks were well said.
But why I wrote this is to show people the power of the badge.
I'm sorry to hear about your mishap. It's always sh@#ty when people with no morals or ethics intentionally go out of their way to hurt you (trust me I know). And this is family??? Jeeze. What kind of role-model to her son is she being? Ignore her and move on.
But no she doesn't have a key and she is not wanted here.
If she has no key then get a dog - that's what I would do. That way you would know this/your place won't be messed with even when your not there. Secondly, I'd get a few cameras as well. If she has no key then there must be an obvious means of a B & E that she (or her friend) would have to conduct to gain access. Forget the police if they don't take action. Take her to court for any losses that she caused you with your damning evidence and you should have no problems winning for any damage, financial loss, stolen items, etc. - that you've experienced.
Furthermore, I read years ago the there is a psychological attachment to badges with respect to authority. People automatically and on a subconscious level give other people with badges a higher standard with respect to being an authoritative figure in any situation - something to think about as preppers in a post-SHTF situation.

A dogs a damn good idea. Just finding it hard to get another one. Had a pitbul and a wire hair terrier. The terrier was the boss and the pitbul thought she was a lapdog. But I'm starting to think a dog again might not be a bad idea. And as for entry? Well, we in the country leave our doors mainly unlocked. We trust our neighbors around here but can't trust family.
I think it will be time for a move soon and to a nice remote location with very few knowing it.

She was trying to take antiques from the attic. But it's not so much what she took as the lack of any action of the pigs.

And when I wore a badge we always had to tell ourselves where the term PIG came from... It was from a plaque that stated Pride, Integrity & Guts 😆 (a little trivia for those not in the know). It was a big thing in the 70's and that was when I served. 🙄 Makes me sound really old saying that! 😳 Another thing we used to say in our defense was "If you don't like the cops, next time you need help, call a hippie!" 😎
I can't say that I envy the police of today as there seems to be even sicker things happening in today's world. Yet the police of today seem softer as they no longer step in swinging but instead shoot ya with tasers and then bullets shortly thereafter. They dicker with you on any ticket like a salesman as they suggest that they'll reduce the speed you were going so you'll just pay the ticket and feel like you got off easy. We used to issue alot of warnings unless we pulled you over too often then we wrote you up for all we could... my day just seemed more honest I guess! And nobody drives the speeds we used to anyways.... they treat 130 Km like we used to treat 130 mph! Our old cars went alot faster and handled half as well! They weighed twice as much and most folks drove them away after having just fender benders. Ah, the good ol days.... 😆
And now they want to even put cameras on the officers hats... can you imagine if you forget to take your hat off when you go take a leak... 😯
Interesting. But I was using it in more of a derogatory term. The cops in your day were also hailed as heroes protecting the weak. Last year I saw a video about one cup that stood up for a persons right in the states and it went viral, people treated it as if it was something new. But the cops are supposed to help the weaker and the disabled instead of beat them. Watch this video in its entirety and then tell me what we should do? We can't let it get that bad in canada. We have to stand up for what it right before it's too late!!

Sometimes it doesn't work out for the officer.
I have seen alot of such footage in the past too. When I was an MP, I often got to witness some of it first hand. I used to figure 1 out of 2 MP's didn't deserve the badge on their chest and maybe 1 in 3 for the Calgary City Police. Many seem to become officers for reasons that are unbecoming of a P/O. They may hide them well through police training but the daily crap seems to bring out the worst and so such things eventually seem to surface. I call this "Luggage"!
There is usually reasons for every action as there is reason for this luggage that each of us carry around. It's just what we do in times of crisis and how we carry this luggage in these times. When young, I saw things with far simpler and with far more innocent eyes. Becoming a police officer at the age of 18 definitely was a slap in the face with a case of reality. When I saw bad things happen at first, I told myself that they only happened in cities. So I pretended that I grew up with none of this daily crap had ever occurred in my youth.
After leaving the force, when I eventually went back home, my eyes were now opened to note such things. I realized that Bob's dad was always a drunk, Bill's dad have often beat the kids, Jills's mom ran around, Janet's dad had raped her and so on. Friends were finally of the age that they started talking when they were drinking and thus secrets were exposed. It appears that we were just naive in the way we viewed the world earlier!
I still marvel when some guy states that he hasn't been in a fight in his whole life. Why is it that I have been in so many that I couldn't list them or even sort as to the reasons of each. And there are many were not due to being a P/O. But all were justified in my mind at the time as something worth fighting for. Does that make me one of those officers that you now show me? I hope not as I do honestly remember that I was often fighting for the rights of others who were unwilling to stand up and defend themselves. But maybe I was just using such as an excuse to show off my skills...I hope not! But I still dislike how others will take advantage of those who they sense they can dominate. It makes me feel that they need to be taken down a notch or two, even today.
The meek always state that violence cannot be met with violence and that seems true as the cycle seems to only then continue. But kindness does not resolve this aspect in those with black hearts as they always seem continue on their path of destruction anyways. From experience I can state unequivocally all fights that are won become a blur as to details of the fight as I only seemed to then remember the victory dance after. Yet the fight lost is the one that we dissect, analyze and study under a microscope to better understand our failings.... and it was upon this premiss that I used to figure the black-hearted could reflect upon their actions better while healing. I also noted that I fought better when I believed that I which I was fighting for!
And I mention all this as maybe justification for some of my past. I know there are some folks who would still put me on the trouble makers side but I hope those people are few in number.
If you haven't discovered by now, I seem to find ways to use a story to express a thought or drive a point home. My father often did this! Seems some good things rub off too! I too carry luggage as do the rest of you, it's how we handle this luggage that makes us weak or strong! I know Jesus says to turn the other cheek but what happens if the sting is still there from when I turned it last time?
And this is my dilemma today... I still see that there are times that if one stands their ground, the enemy will slink back into the shadows where they belong....but the numbers in the shadows seem be be getting high and they find strength in numbers...
Hi Knuckle. You have a really good way of saying things and a great talent with words. From speaking with you over the past while I see that you have lots to offer in terms of past experiences. Maybe you are one of the few that can really see the horror happening and corruption for what it is. When I was young, like all children I guess I wanted to be a cop but as I grew up and saw the abuse in power and the break up of families in what was a heated argument. I've seen children's whole life ruined because of the action of police officers who went by policy instead of his own observations. Police are no more the saviors of past but the corrupt bullies of the elite. Police have too much power and yes. Have to be knocked down a notch. I have been on both sides when dealing with the police, and because of my past they judge me then and there I'm only one light. I am coming to the end of my string dealing with corrupt and biased cops. I can feel it. I have always used respect with cops as I was taught by my parents but that respect is at an end.
And Knuckle, you sound as though you were one of the good ones. So what is right and you can never go wrong. But don't let today's "policy" stand in the way of doing what is needed.

I too often wonder if a SHTF scenario were to occur, which officers would serve their government (who provides the cheques) and which would protect the public with whom they were sworn to serve? There is an oath given that I wonder if they take seriously today as they were not just words in my day...are they just words today or is it something that some still hold as a badge of honour?
When you see the events unfolding in places like Ukraine, one should see the possibilities of such things eventually happening here too. We seem to be presently changing our laws to better accommodate this new aspect of today's government and their right to rule our every action. They claim it is to better protect us from terrorism but the excuse is shallow and not realistic. These new provisions seem to allow the government to see into everyone's daily lives and conclude how loyal you may be by your daily actions. How can this be an honourable act? Do we in turn get to see this same measure of our leaders and government workers? This is how we too are being channeled into many fascist ideals even though we continue to claim that we are a democracy.
With such thoughts as these, this is when I seem to lean more towards the religious predictions and hope then that there is a God! My balance remains a precarious one, atop this fence of indecision, while both sides can now see me well as I wobble along and live up to my self appointed title of Fence Walker.
I know exactly what you mean. Through my research into history, when I first began I was an atheist. I was so arrogant that I thought I could prove that evolution was true. The more I dug the stranger it got and to make a long story short, I came out the other side a Christiam. I don't only believe in God, I know there is one. Through mathematical determination I have through probability come up with the undeniable conclusion and there can be no other. I have researched thousands of years and dozens of religions. I don't force my faith in anyone but I will help guide anyone if they seem to want it or need it. And I will defend my faith. But because of my memory issues I have forgotten so much. But the outcome is still the same. I had an amazing journey and feel more at peace with myself then I ever have been.

Looking back is 20 by 20 vision...
I too was a cop at a very young age, too young I suspect. Power and corruption seemed to be the totality of the power given and persons wielding the club.
I seemed to be doing it wrong back then as I never seemed to fit into the super cop mentality of arrest records and convictions, it was more of an attitude of I'm here to protect people even from themselves but if you were an habitual bad ass you deserve what you got.
As Knuckle stated most cops I knew never deserved to wear the badge and the few that did got swallowed by the others corruptions and could do nothing but give up. In todays world I believe that all of the laws being passed down to us unknowing people are put there for control and not for our safety or to secure our rights.
I have no problem in staying within the laws but I do have a problem when they erode my rights and freedoms.
I was one who gave up and didn't want to fight any longer in a loosing battle, maybe that was wrong but now looking back the outcome would of been the same.
I live by a simpler code of rules now, I think stupidity should be painful, if you grab a hot pot on a stove it hurts, you very rarely repeat that stupid action again, you do something stupid around me harming me or others because of your actions I promise you will learn a painful lesson.
As for policy and regulations causing harm well that's a discussion that really depends on each individual situation, as I see it the problem arises from time restraints and people who are given titles without life experience. As examples marriage counselors who have never been married, social workers who don't have family or kids, addiction counselors who have never been addicted, I guess in short book smart and life experience stupid.
This all has been there from the start but today it is so fast paced and dealt with in 15min office visits no one gets real answers or solutions.
Maybe it's time to go back to the old adage of it takes a village to raise a child, or to stop injustices.
Just my two cents...
