or as my Scottish ancestors would do from the English, is run for the hills, to defend ones self. there is always the change that the person could take your weapon and use it on you. I like the big dog idea, and not that i would, but you could always eat your dog if it came to it. I live were every one and there grandmother has a long gun for hunting cross bows etc, so i guess my weapon would be call my friends up the road for help.
i uses stun gun for my protection.. a while ago i was using a pepper spray but i was shoot to it directly to my eyes.. that i have a phobia on it now.. wish this stun gun wont hit me at all..lol

Where to buy stun guns to stun someone..
Here is an interesting read for those of you who may have a knife in your house, but are unsure of whether you would or would not use it should your life be threatened. This is a recent case of an Ontario homeowner stabbing an intruder to death, and the police decided not to charge the homeowner.
This post is all of course ‘in my humble opinion’. I simply cannot write it without the possibility of offending someone who disagrees but for the record it is not my intention herein to offend anyone.
The system cannot be relied on to protect you; if you’re going to put your faith exclusively in the police to protect you from assault you may as well stop ‘prepping’ now too and assume the feds will be there for you if TSHTF.
I’m a man and while I’ll lay down my life to protect my loved ones, I’m not invincible. If you’re a woman you might want to consider that; are you relying exclusively on your husbands skills to keep you alive? If he isn’t with you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (and is invincible) I would think it would be in your best interests to have some appreciable level of skill. If you’re part of a (n old fashioned) family, one potential dynamic is for the husband to be considered the first line of defence, the wife the second, protecting the kids if he were to fall.
Your focus may be on firearms as your main defensive option; I wouldn’t disagree with that aside from your ability to carry it with you absolutely everywhere you go, with extra ammunition. Aside from the logistical difficulties, I can’t legally do that. I can’t stroll into Wally World with a 12 gauge even if it is legally registered and I have a POL in my pocket. Projectile weapons training is just as vital as any other part of my practice, I just believe in having a backup plan and a backup plan for the backup plan and so on...
More practice=more skill but that doesn’t mean it should take you five or ten years to be able to defend yourself. I’m not knocking all ‘studio schools’ (as I’ve spent plenty of time in various dojo/dojang/kwoon as well as basement and garage clubs) but in all honesty I’ve developed far more useful abilities in those basement/garage clubs than I ever did in the dojo whether I was learning or teaching. The limitation there is based on the structure and syllabus of what is taught; you may ‘master’ the style in question but if for example that style is flashy and acrobatic, is it applicable to fighting off a burglar or what have you? I could go on ad nauseam about this, specifically addressing what styles (if you take the mainstream school approach) I consider to be your best (or worst) options but I’ll leave that unless asked.
I train with everything. That’s right, everything (I certainly spend a lot of time practicing empty hand skills as well but this is mainly about ‘weapons for self defence in Canada’). Take a look around you. Everything you see, I see as a potential environmental weapon (and train to be able to put it into effect). Now if your SKS is mounted on the wall in front of you that part goes without saying, but aside from that... some have obvious potential and others may seem pretty useless at first glance.
There are ‘designed weapons’ and ‘improvised’ weapons and there are a limited set of ‘weapon patterns’ into which any given object can fit. For example, the change in your pocket won’t work as an impact weapon, edged weapon, etc... but can function as a projectile weapon where the intent is to distract (from the main attack) if not necessarily to damage (i.e.; throw change in face resulting in flinch response immediately followed by the big right hook, groin kick, whatever). As another example, the rake in the yard may not be a naginata/polearm/halberd but can be wielded in a similar fashion with some devastatingly bloody results.
I’m certainly not advocating being essentially unarmed and relying on weapons in the environment either but if I have a screwdriver in my hand when I need to fight I’m going to use it, not drop it before I reach for my EDC knife.
-Better to go practice on your own (and preferably with a good training partner) than nothing at all. Unless you’re a complete moron you will develop some good sound strategies that will serve you better than mowing down on chips on the couch.
-Yes, most people who teach or train at schools will tell you the only way to learn anything useful is by joining up, you’ll ‘do it wrong’ on your own/with books/with videos. Most people who teach or train at these schools are either turning a profit at it, have fallen into a trap of delusional fantasy or both. They may believe they are giving you good advice and on rare occasions they actually are but it depends on the school in question.
-Don’t let the rituals or sideshow demonstrations distract you from what you need to learn. Ritual (uniforms, bowing, language, etc...) is not bad in its own sake (and there is value in learning about other cultures) but if there is no realistic core to it you may be wasting your time.
-It’s not like the movies, fighting for your life is a chaotic, brutal thing.
-If you ever find yourself feeling that you are ready for anything, you’re definitely not. Time to reexamine what you’re doing or fall into the trap of delusional fantasy yourself of “I’m a master”/”I’m an unbeatable badass”. It’s like any other aspect of survivalism (call it prepping if you like it fuzzier) you’re never ready for every possible eventuality but you must continue to prepare for as much as possible thereby increasing your chances of survival. If you think you’re done, you missed something.

good post, and yes you probably offended some, so what!
Using anything is valuble and I agree with the Karate style of training all show (my words not his folks...) Self defence classes are a good starting point, Russian Style, Israeli Style, are more of the killing, disabling and defensive moves that are needed. I held some high belt colours, but now after years of not doing them, you forget things, simple things so yes even 15 min a day is better than 1 hr a week in training, with nothing else done.
Yes, through stuff, especially pointy sharp stuff, but rocks, telephones, pens, change, anything is better than nothing. So good post, keep it up 🙂
One must think outside the box. An umbrella, a golf ball, hair spray...etc.

Do not forget the Albertan rancher who fired buckshot over the head of the thief stealing his ATV. His aim was slightly low and a few pellets hit the thief. The resulting charges netted him a sentence three times what the thief recieved. My bet is the thief will not try to rob him again. Do not forget that Canadian laws are "dead right" on this issue. His answer was that I would rather be judged by twelve, than carried by six. I agree completely. Canadians would do well to learn the "dead right" rule. You may be right, but you will be dead, or stolen from, or beaten or.....

Hey there everyone. Im Aries. I am new to this site and would like to touch upon a few things, so now on you may see me being a little harsh on comments and postings. This is done, not to insult, but to motivate. It is quite obvious that this webpage and forum lacks in content, significantly. I have been surfing the net for years, primarily intaking these subjects from the American point of view, but nonetheless, out of all I've seen, this site comes off as poor and quite pathetic. From what I have read, 90% of the population on here hasn't the slightest clue of which they speak. That is fine, I blame miss-guidance, not so much any individual.
I'm not here to sh*t on anyone or anything, the prepper community should be a strongly woven and connected web, ready to stand together and help eachother, before AND when the situation calls upon us. Given that, it is time to step your game up.
I'm sure we'll discuss more on such later, but for now, the topic at hand. I you want a good weapons system for a shtf or wrol scenario, that is for example, less than lethal or just legal and readily available in Canada, than you must look at many more options than earlier mentioned. I have videos and I train on this and several other subjects, but for this immediate moment I will explain here.
Scenario/example - It's time to bug-out! You grab your gear and family, head outside and pound the pavement in the direction you have all trained for. At this inconvenient moment your transpo. Is out of commission or is down the street in a parking lot. Either way, you and yours are in motion. Your not alone out there as half-asleep, panic filled people start to exit their barns (sheep referrance). A man approaches you, he may be after your supplies, wanting to hurt your family or could just possibly believe you are informed and can answer questions he has, you're travelling specific and accurately and clearly know something they don't. At this point sh*t has hit the fan! Or has it? What if you have jumped the gun???!! There's so much unsureity in the air that you can't understand your own thoughts, let alone the intentions of this rapidly approaching individual. So you warn him....then you draw down...and BANG! He's gone.
Think about that scenario. Your family just witnessed this death. That won't be easy for them. What if you did jump the gun and it hasn't hit the fan, now your embarrassed as well as serving consecutive years in prison.
What could have been done differently?
Less than lethal tactics could have been employed. Disregard an extendo(baton) or bear/dog mace. Or even most stun "guns" readily available in Canada. I can give you some beyond obvious tips and ideas for such devices. Several of which are repurposed beyond their intended use. I train people with 2 of these specific systems.
My point is, beyond me telling you to contact me or inquire, is that you need to THINK. YOU NEED TO START THINKING. I almost feel like an American when I read this website, Canada, is weak, still in the box and not even on par with our lower cousins.
I have many more posts to make. So that's enough for here and now, thanks for reading.
Aries - looking forward to reading your posts.
Thanks partner. I am give us all a fighting chance. I truly believe a event is to come. Drastic enough to force these practices into a full-time presence.
I'm an American who is fortunate enough to be a permanent resident here in Canada. With this background, my take on defense might be a little different. I hold very dear the ability to defend myself and my family, and would happily risk whatever charges might come to protect my children.
Recently I've been getting into swords. Yup, swords. Here is why I like them: If displayed decoratively on the walls of your home, you have instantly become a "collector". As a collector, you've now opened the door to other types of decorative objects. Pick an era or style and stick with it. I like Viking stuff. I am the proud possessor of a broadsword and a few daggers. They are all "decoratively" displayed but sharp and ready to use. There have never been any questions about the lovely items in my home as far as them being used for defense.
I have been a long time proponent of bear spray. We truly are avid hikers, so this is not something that draws attention either. A creative person can stash weapons in plain sight all around their home. Think of wasp spray at the entrances, baseball bats with the sporting goods, heavy fireplace tools near the hearth, and so on.....
As a single mama with two beautiful daughters I feel like a predator might consider us ripe for the picking, or easy targets. That predator would be wrong.
Hi James CanadianWildernessSurvival.com, I just moved to Ontario from New Brunswick and I'm not up on all the Ontario law, I have two questions, one I see in this thread that you said Baton where legal, I'm very interested on how you found that out, I was under the impression that they where not. I would love to get some proof that it's safe (law wise) so i can carry something to defend my self. I also can't get a clear answer on whether or not assisted opening knives are legal here, I like to carry one in case I'm ever hung up its ideal to open with one had to free your self, but I get so many people including 2 cops that told me they are not legal. I use to carry my Zero tolerance ZT 301 but i will not take the chance of losing it, I want to know 100% that i can carry and I would also like to find proof so i can say "you can't take it see it says right here". Thank you in advance for your help and response and please check us out at http://www.Canadianwildernesssurvival.com !!

hi all,
mainly thinking about the time before there is a total breakdown, this is the dangerous period where structure will be up and running dealing with violent complaints/actions will be normal as it is today, if there is mass break down the rules change as the structure will not deal with 1 violent complaint/action but mass control and no thought will be given to a violent complaint, this is what i speculate and what keeps me awake at night trying to think thru the inbetween time if i can continue on in obscurity? any violent confrontations will be noticed and reported bringing unwanted attention to me, part of my plan is intel from Ham Radio/CTCSS/CB to alert me to what is here, what is leaving and what is coming, speculating the situation will be very dynamic and will have to think/react quickly so i'm back to preparation and continuing to think thru many scenarios and sleepless nights, lol
interesting to hear what others speculate on finding the thoughts and concerns of all helpful in my preparation.
First off, what is up with the pathetic lack of activity on this website??? Just sayin'.
Anyways, I must agree, when it comes to safety of yourself or people you feel you may need to protect, F!CK the legal instabilities and handle your shit. In my honest opinion, if your prepping for one of the many and obvious coming instigators of collapse, while living your "stable" systematic life (correction, terrorist life...you know, preppers, terrorists, same thing...?) and your staying bound to what someone else says regarding your safety, then frankly put, you shouldn't have a weapon for self-defense. Why? Because you wouldn't know what to do with it. That's why they dot want you to have one! Because your incompetent.... If you feel you NEED such a tool, then let me tell you, you'll find a way to have one. Even if that means choosing the lesser of 2 evils. Jail time or criminal record instead of having your brains mooshed in by some road raging idiot's tire iron? If you don't feel you NEED such a defense tool, then shamefully your are just trying to be cool and fit in.
If you don't have to balls and knowledge to carry, you don't have either or to use it if the situation arises.
Simple as that.
Now for those looking for suggestions as to what one should carry, there are many details to depict a decision, such as space requirements, lethality, place of carry(person or vehicle) etc. But here are a few suggestions.
1. Paitball marker - cranked up (full psi or fps ability). Widely used by swat teams, police and riot teams world wide.
2. Baton or extendo - unless trained, I don't advise. Too easy to permanently handicap or kill a person.
3. Bear or dog repellant - again like all suggestions, without training, YOU'LL be the one who gets hurt.
4. Blade - knife or razor. Obvious story ending with such a tool.
5. Stun gun.
6. Air horn or personal alarm - defens and draws attention, most criminals won't think your worth the 30+ witnesses.
7. Martial arts or combat training - best option, legal, weighs nothing and is invisible.
Hope I've helped in anyway. Good luck
A few comments on self defense:
- You won't see it coming. An attacker will always have the element of surprise. Be prepared to be unprepared and focus on close range techniques.
- My favourite EDC item is the surefire E2D. http://www.surefire.com/E2D-Executive-Defender . Bright enough to blind an attacker in all but broad daylight, come with a nice "DNA sampler" around the lens. Light and with CR123A batteries, you can count on it in all weather. I travel internationally and pass through airports all the time so you can always have it with you anywhere. Good for hacking at the face/temple/neck.
