If you don’t have insulation around to insulate your freeze coma SHTF scenario, corrugated cardboard works good also. also a good area filler in the freezer are small cardboard boxes. Also placing newsprint or cardboard, across the top of your freezer goods, acts also as an insulation.
Absolutely, but if you are a prepper or just plain frugal, boxes full of air are wasted space. Bags full of water that can be thawed and drank is a better choice. I would take it one step further and and have those bags full of stock or milk as well. Although they are a luxury for long term situations, if you are only worried about the short term, its all good. Cardboard and newspaper will help keep the food frozen, but insulation will help keep the electricity consumption down as well.
We were talking about buying a BBQ because we don't own one but we decided to order a Volcano 2 Cook Stove instead. It uses propane, charcoal or wood and it's portable.

I picked up another book, The Prepper's Pocket Guide. It seems like a no nonsense beginners guide to prepping. I will post more when I finish the book.
Friday night at the auction (I go every Friday ) I picked up another wood stove ($ 1o)and free old natural gas water heater.I want to heat my water in summer time with wood.In winter my hot water is heated by my wood burning furnace. It is so easy to combine wood stove with water heater and use only wood.We just received note from hydro that the charges are going up again.(nothing new) Henry
By the way, water rates are going up also, because everyone is conserving , they have lost the revenue needed for maintenance. Catch 22. 🙄
