Good news indeed but there are tons of loopholes. I think the only reason why the homeowner didn't get charged with firearm-related "crimes" was that he lived in the prairies. Had this happened anywhere else, the thug would have had his 2 yr probation and community service while the homeowner would have spent years clearing his name in debating ridiculous laws for "dangerously discharging a firearm" and probably, "improper storage of a firearm."

Its a start. Its not ideal, but could eventually get better. I think a police officer should be allowed to make a judgement call if it was self defence & necessary, so a clear cut case of self defence wont mean you go to court for 2 years before your found innocent, if you are obviously innocent & justified
