OK - I can hardly believe my eyes! I thought this might be a worthwhile skill to learn.

There are the cheap zip ties that most people buy at the store, and then there are the zip ties used by law enforcement.
The difference is in the type of plastic, and that the part that locks the "zipper" is metal in law enforcement.
You can buy both types, but you you shell out bigger bucks for the metal ones.

After seeing the video when I first started using that site last year, I tried the technique, and while it does work, I can tell you that it is a painful experience.
Not something you want to try practicing on a regular basis unless you want people asking why your wrists look like they have been handcufffed 😉

the zippers aren't metal, just larger. they come with a 'key' allowing you to unlock and reuse.

The ties used in the video were rated at 175lbs, those used by law enforcement are rated between 300 and 500 lbs. I don't think you will be breaking those. For household zip ties you can also use a straightened large paperclip to shimmy the. Once you straighten the paperclip save it as they are a perfect size to insert in the manual eject button if you get a disk stuck in your CD or DVD drive. Love the paracord shoes laces!

The military zip cuffs are plastic but have a metal locking tongue inside the locking mechanism. The metal tab only gets tighter the more you pull and they are near impossible to manipulate them open. Your best bet is to fight before they get put on you.
