I think everyone should have a smaller BOB for those little emergencies.
I had to stay at the hospital recently for a few weeks. My little BOB saved my sanity and my dignity
I had books and my phone to keep me occupied even though I had no cell service in the hospital. Games and ebooks on my phone had me entertained for the long emergency room wait. Later after my surgery a pair of pajama pants saved my dignity, when the nurses insisted I walk around the ward to regain strength.

What I think should be in a mini BOB

Medical info/ important documents/ emergency contact list (I did grab current meds before running to the hospital. The doctors loved having this)

Spare charger cords for your entertainment devices

Puzzle books, copies of your favorite novels, if you knit or crochet include some stuff for this too, anything to keep you entertained. Face it you'll get tired if the outdated magazines in the hospital waiting room real quick.

Toiletries (no need to explain why)

Pajama pants. Why did I say pajama pants rather than just pajamas? Simple they will insist you stay in a hospital gown, if you ask nice they will let you wear a loose pair if pajama pants if it doesn't interfere with your stitches

Spare set of loose adjustable clothing for leaving the hospital. Trust me a nice cozy pair of sweatpants is going to be great when the jeans you came in with would irritate stitches even if they are loose fitting.

You can include snacks and juices, but if you are the paitent ask the nurce first if you should eat or drink anything.
Often they will want you to compleatly fast, including water. Blood tests could be thrown off if you eat or drink. The food won't go to waste if you have a good family member/friend roughing out the long boring hospital with you

Coins for parking meters if family/friend drove you.

Remember you'll need one for each family member. A child's bag will need toys/coloring books, diapers, creams and other necessities
