$60 & $80 good prices vs the 150+ in store
can't beat that price used, but still new.. good for light camping. Look for a real sturdy canvas tent in kijiji.ca I have picked them up for as little as $20 for a 8x10 canvas, internal and external systems. You camp and hike with Nylon, you live in Canvas, just a military expression.

Thanks for looking, WildernessReturn, these are "instant" tents? I need 8-10-person instant tent. I already have an awesome Russian tent for myself when I go Winter camping alone, just looking gor something easy for when I take kids 🙂

Didn't I see one that uses air filled tubes instead of poles? Essentially an inflatable tent?

Michael Criton mentioned such a tent in his book "Congo". It was made of lightweight Mylar. I did a search after reading the book but came up empty, a few demonstration units and a couple of design ideas but nothing available to buy.

He did write fiction though (but I hope we do bring back some dinosaurs)

What you don't know can't hurt you 🙂

I wouldn't trust any camping gear sold by Canadian Tire to last long or perform well.

I second this. I view anything from Canadian Tire as semi-disposable.

As with anything, due diligence and product research will decide the quality and durability of the product. A Coleman camp stove purchased from Canadian tire will be as good as one purchased anywhere else. It is the product that matters not the store. I think a lot of people run into problems when they try to get things for cheap and expect top line goods.

Canadian Tire gear can be hit or miss, speaking on quality.

As a former employee, I can say that even most of the brand name goods they sell, especially the ones that seem a great deal, are in fact the lower quality lines. But that doesn't necessarily mean they are crap either. In most of the cases, even those lower line products are of superior quality when compared to the offshore crap that CT purchases through its Shanghai office.

Most people that have problems with CT goods either bought the clearance crap (the $5 wonders) or actually bought a reshelved return. Yeah, they do that. If you notice the packaging taped up, or their are more staples in it then there should reasonably, it's a reshelf. I use to call some items a weekend rental.
In fact, I've gotten some excellent products from there myself, at substantial discount (a 5500 watt generator for one cost me $125) from a "rental" return.
I've also seen some auto batteries reshelved when I worked there (in the garage). Ever bought a car battery that died in 5-6 months?

Now, having said that would I rely 100% on something I got at CT? Nope. I wouldn't do so on anything from anywhere else either. Your not likely to live in the tent for a long time right? If it serves your purposes for even 2-4 uses, then I'd call that useful enough.

Besides when it comes to kids, and even stressful situations in general, the only guarantee you can bet on is that you may need to patch that tent -- or any other you buy.
