Pretty sound logic - but there are cicumstances such as forced evacuation from towns/cities and fire and risk of explosions, and war/invasion scenarios. - just to name a few. but for most cases you are right - remember we are looking at endless posibilities of events and event combos.

What am I going to do if someone takes my stuff while I'm in transit to my bugout location?
Do I prep lesser quality items to get me to my bugout location? (Less cost to me and won't be as valuable to the thief)
Have more caches along the way to help me get to where I'm going?

My dad, originally from Holland, tells me of a time AFTER the German war. When the people who had turned in their neighbours or commit theft on their fellow countryman or assisted the enemy in any way(even for food) were dragged into the streets, stripped of their clothes, tarred and feathered and made to walk the streets. A good ten years after that the community had still not forgotten.

I would like to think, it would be a harder conversation to have-to take from another(material goods, food, house, life).
We should really be working on our moral compass as long as we possibly can(remember the movie 'the road').
Especially once the SHTF. None of us here are naive, we have an image of what Hell looks like-some more than others.
