i was surfing the net and saw a video on a site that recommended storing tap water in buckets with bleach added. now, correct me if i'm wrong, but doesn't water stagnate ??
Water doesn't stagnate. The chemicals and bacteria in the water cause any stagnation that happens. Before you put it in the buckets, boil it for at least 20 minutes. Put a capful of chlorine bleach in the bucket then fill it with the water and seal it. Regardless of how long you store it for, if you're going to use it for cooking or drinking, boil it again.
You also may want to look at a fine bubbler, such as the type found in large fish tanks. Stale water, water that has been still too long can lose oxygen. Shaking it for a long time in a half full container (room for fresh air) or using a bubbler will make the water better to drink. Some of the best water to drink is at the base of a waterfall, (or use to), if the water isnt polluted that is. 🙄

I have seen a pink slim "algae" growth in the bottom of open buckets after they have sat for a week but in in closed ones
Excellent link Oldschool. We have a real problem in this area with this pink airbourne bacteria. It seems to be immpossible to eradicate it completely.
