CNBC.com Article: Depression, Suicides Rise as Euro Debt Crisis Intensifies

Europe is approaching a “humanitarian crisis” as the region’s debt crisis and austerity measures increase the rates of depression, suicide and psychological problems – just as governments cut healthcare spending by up to 50 percent, according to campaigners, policy makers and health organizations.

CryBaby,

I read the article and was once again reminded that I am no "humanitarian". I looked further into the EUs unemployment rates by country and there is no doubt that employment is a problem however as I understand it, one can work within the entire union. There are other countries within the EU where the unemployment rate is less than 6%. So the question is, suicide or move to Holland? I hired a 29 year old carpenter who wanted to be a site supervisor last week. He worked with me one day, said he would see me on the morrow and I haven't heard from him since. I'm having a tough time with sympathy for the humanitarian crisis and for folks can't get their "happy pills" to cope...

Hmmm yes things will no doubt get a lot worse in this regard soon.

What I find frustrating is that there are people with work who don't want to work and there are people without work who want to work!
DH has been in the building industry which has come to a screaming halt here and he can no longer get work in that industry despite being a good tradesman. Yet there are a couple of drunken idiot tradies who do have work but they are prepared to work to cover their beer at the end of the day and just enough to go fishing, so because they are cheap they get the work despite the substandard work they do 👿
DH is now loooking at his security license as security will no doubt be in higher demand as the economy gets worse!

The US doesnt have any products... hence their dilemma. We at least have resouces, but if no one can afford to buy them and process them, whats the point.

News today from the US Fed', they are going to print an additional 40 - 50 billion a month to buy USA Bonds for the next 6 to 8 months (or longer?) to help "encourage" growth in their economy. Our dollar is over a buck three in response and they haven't even started yet. If manufacturing was sucking the hind teet before.... Can everyone spell "inflation"? It will be like the late 70's again.

This is very interesting, because I keep hearing how in the State of California they are letting crops rot in the fields and on the trees because they cannot get enough help to harvest the crops. In California they are blaming it on a lack of illegal immigrants to do the harvesting. With 46 million in the hurt locker you would figure a few million of them may want to work in the agriculture field, yes the pay sucks but at least you can take some food home every night.

Just my two cents,

Mountainman.

The farmers only want illigals to work the fields because most of them have "special crops" scattered throughout their land lol
