Howdy Traveller,

10 June, does not work for me. However, 09 June or 16 June would both work.

I guess the idea for Chestermere is out. Other places that may work could include:

Big Hill Springs Provincial Park - looks like they have a picnic area. Hwy's 567 & 766. I think. Between Airdrie and Cochrane just off Hwy 567.

Water Valley - never been there, but it looks like they have a community hall/ball diamond in their town.

I agree a meeting sooner than later. I will out of the area after the end of June for a family road trip. I would like to see us get back together again before I have to hit the road.

Let's make this work,

Mountainman.

Well, I am not attached to Chestermere. It was just a suggestion. But you are correct, it is a bit more high profile.

What about any other place near Hwy 22?? North of Cochrane?? Way North around Sundre, there are some possible places but I am not sure I want to commit to heading that far away, but if the turn out is supreme, of course, I am in.

We need more chatter folks. Sound off and sound in. What do others feel would work?? With more input, we can firm up a date and location, quick.

Not sure what they have for a picnic/park but Cremona is close to the 22 and not too far away?? Any thoughts or opinions??

Mountainman.

We are on holidays during June 9 and 10, and we are going to be in town; so either date works for us.

She enjoys roadtrips so as long as we're within a day's ride of Calgary (there and back)...

June 9 and 16 are both good here as well. I think the Big HIll Prov Park would be great. There is also a picnic area at the newly opened Glenbow Ranch Prov Park just 5 min east of Cochrane. Plenty of hiking trails around that one as well and beautiful views. Preppers like views right?

Howdy Briden,

Can you give us a first hand assestment of Big Hill Prov Park vs Glenbow Ranch?? Which one has more vehicle traffic?? Which one has the easiest access for vehicles?? Which one has the best washroom facilities?? (in case our wives or girlfriends attend with us.)

Any first hand knowledge of these venues would help others decide which location would work best for them.

Thanks,

Mountainman.

Hey all, It may be worthwhile to have an 'agenda' so that others know what we have talked about in brief, and maybe what we may talk about in future?

For example, I just posted this article on the general discussion area but I think it may be an interesting focal point for our own discussion at the next meeting;

http://survivalcache.com/shtf-vs-teotwawki/

I found the part of the article that discussed the bugging-in vs bugging-out timelines to be especially interesting as we had briefly discussed that amongst ourselves.

We got to see mountainman's Bug out vehicle last time; it may be interesting to see what others have done or to compare Bug out Bags. It's one this to have a list of items, but another to actually see how it all fits in the bag or trunk (minus firearms of course 😀 )

Heck, we could have the picnic using food taken from our preps so others can have a taste of our favourites...

It is just a thought that we may generate more interest in a meeting if people know what they may learn if they come out.
Any thoughts?

Vehicle Traffic: basically the same, both are well used.
Access: both have good highway access, Glenbow Ranch is off the more main highway #1A, so it would be quicker for those coming via Calgary and east.
Washrooms: Both have the pit style with guys and girls sides. Glenbow's are newer if that means anything.
View: Big Hill - hills and trees and streams, Glenbow - mountain view

The picnic area at Big Hill is right at the entrance to the hiking areas and right beside the focal point of the place being the streams and falls that all the kids play in. Both places are quite busy in terms of people traffic, but I would personally say that Big Hill's picnic areas are less desirable and a lot more in the way. Was just at Glenbow this past Saturday and there are two main picnic area's there. One right at the entrance to the hiking paths, and another back in beside the office hidden quite well by thick bush. If we wanted some privacy and some tables, I would say Glenbow gives you those best. I'm open to either of course, I've spent a lot of good time at both.

Briden, Thanks for the intel. I have just read that the meeting location will be DQ on the Westside of your town. 1200 (Noon) 09 June 2012. I hope you can make it, see you there.

Mountainman.

Dang, Great suggestions. I believe Traveller has already posted your idea for having an agenda for the next meet. I like the idea of show & tell. Minus the phase-plasma rifles, grenades, and thermo-nuclear devices. We will see those soon enough. 😉

Mountainman.

Unless it hits the fan between now and then, I'll be there.

Providing that the last test for my mom turns out, I will be heading to alberta to help look after her in regards to a surgery, but I get one day off a week, and would be more then willing to make the drive down and make the meet, I would find the 16th date better then the 9th, as I think that is to soon to the surgery date of the 4th for me. I can bring a few things from home in regards to food, and I can share my travel pack but mainly I am just interesting in hear what you all have to say 🙂

I am new to the Alberta Preppers Network and i am new to the prepping movement and looking to gain knowledge in this area. I'm looking forward to making it down to this meeting on June 9th.

I live in the Calgary SE area near 130th Ave. Is there any other's that live in the SE area of Calgary?

Is this gathering open to anyone who is into prepping? My wife and I are interested in participating but we cannot make it on the 9th due to other commitments but would like to be kept in the loop for next meeting. On a personal note, do you think that the locations you discussed above might be less busy during the hours of 10-12pm on Sundays due to folks being in church? Just a thought.
