Mountaineer,
Yes you and your wife are welcome to attend. It is open to anyone interested in preparing.
If you continue to monitor the Alberta Forum you will know when and where the next meeting will be. We all look forward to meeting you at some point in the near future.
This particular location was picked to ease the travel burden of those traveling from Central AB to attend. Hard to say where the next location will be. I have been monitoring the meetings in ON and it looks like one of the next meetings there will be a overnite campout. That sounds like a good idea. If we get enough interest, maybe our future meeting will be the campout type???? Only time and interest will tell.
We are trying a Saturday meeting because, some members stated they would not be able to make Sunday meeting due to Church. As for the suggested 1000-1200(noon) meeting time, many of us have to travel a good distance to make the location so, it is felt a noon start will allow for an easy day of travels. Of course, many of us could be up at 0530 and on the road by 0600 to make an early morning meeting but chose to enjoy the soft life of noon meetings.
At some point in the future we will have enough members in each area that meetings will not require long travels just to get enjoy folks together to make it worthwhile. This Forum and its members have exploded in the last few weeks. Not sure why, and really I don't care the why. The good news is, more folks are taking prepping serious and are getting involved at the individual level. This is the grassroots level, where things happen. And they happen quick because the people want it to happen. No bureaucracy or government interference to slow progress down or to suppress ideas, concerns or questions. Folks working together to the mutual benefit of all.
Someday the sheeple will wake up and finally clue in to the idea - No one will be there to save them in a crisis, except themselves. That will be the day the sheeple arrive in flocks to Forums like this and look for guidance on how to prepare for the future and it will be the responsibility of those who have the knowledge to share with those in need. So, learn as much as you can, because in the near future you may be called upon to share what you have learned with others.
Ooops. I got a little carried away there.
Short answer: yes, you and your wife are very welcome to attend our meeting. If you are unable to make this one. See you next time.
Mountainman.
Mountainman just do me a favor and stop picking dates I am in the States! Two in a row.....I have to miss due to work. <sigh> Sometimes I want to say "BAH work is overrated", but I guess I need the work to give me the funds to be able to prep.
Have a good meeting folks and hope to finally meet you down the road at the next one!
Crashed,
Before the next date is selected, Traveller, will contact you as well. Too bad, we have not selected so you could attend. 🙁
See you at the next one.
Mountainman.
Just checking....is the meeting still June 9th @12 noon in the parkinglot of TH/DQ?
Yes. 09 June 2012. 1200 (noon) at the TH/DQ parking area. Cochrane, AB.
See you there!!

Thanks. We think that holding this gathering in different locations is a great idea. Are there any families out there that have gotten their children involved in prepping and coming to these gatherings?
How did the meeting go on Sat. June 9th? Sorry we couldn't make it. Any plans to have them regularly?

Mountaineer,
We will hold them as often as needed. Which right now, looks like it will be at least monthly. When & where could you make it to a meeting in July or August?? Weekends seem to work for most. Expect the next meeting to be on the weekend.
Kids and prepping. Many kids are trained to "Be Prepared" that is the motto of Scouts. In fact, my son has been to both of the recent meetings. If more kids showed up, I am sure he would be more interested in showing up. Just attending these meetings is good for the kids, even if they do not engage in the adult conversations. They could if they wished, but just meeting others is a good leason to be teaching our kids. IMHO.
Hope to see you at one of these meetings. I may not be able to attend the Alberta July meeting, as we are on a roadtrip this summer.
Cheers,
Mountainman.
Hello Preppers. I am new here and am very interested in getting preppaired. I have been putting together a B.O.B. and am working on a list for supplies to get by longer term. Hope to get chatting soon.
Hmmm, maybe I should rethink the quiet part...
Howdy quietman,
Welcome.
When can you make a meeting in July?? 21st of July is looking like a strong date among those replying, so far.
How far can you travel to make a meeting?? 1 hour of driving from your home?? 2 hours of driving from your home?? If you are reading all the threads you will know where these questions are leading. Make a suggestion of a location for the July meeting.
Again, welcome. Hope to see you in the near future. Keep posting!!
Cheers,
Mountainman.
I would like to attend the next meeting as long as it was on a weekend and near Calgary or not very far north as we are about 2 and a half hours south.
MamaPrep,
What location would work for you?? Would the 21st of July work for you??
How many others live South of Cowtown and are planning to attend the next meeting?? Do we have enough folks in the South to hold a separate meeting for the South?? Not yet??
Keep posting folks, we will work out a location and date that works with most of you.
Mountainman.
We've started talking with our children about prepping so it would be nice if they met other children from families who are into prepping. Unfortunately we're on holidays July 21st so we won't be able to attend. If there is a way in which we could have a meeting around July 7th, we could definitely make that one but the kids won't be present.
I live south of Calgary (Crowsnest Pass). It would be interested in a South meeting.
