OK just got off the phone with D&G about shelters. A 10x12x8 is $4395 0r 2200 for a seconds and a 10x20x8 is $5795 or about 2700 for seconds. Seconds are ones that are discolored or have small imperfections.nothing that impairs there performance

Nice work everybody.

Nighthawk,

Seconds could work. Then find a paint that will stick to this type of plastic, without melting the plastic and then paint them with a roller or spray can, and Bob's your uncle. A new cabin that blends in with its environment!!!

Mountainman.

lol! I have a friend that says Bob's your uncle" at the end of her videos! lol

Since I know I may be inundated with my daughter's friends-i am planning to buy all the materials for them to build a cordwood house. Then we won't trip all over each other. Of course I will buy another wood stove. They might as well do the work-they're young!

Nice Job,

I have looked into the canvas shelters about 2yrs ago but they were out of my price range. I did find a used ( but never deployed )large unit in the states for about 24k but still out of my price range.

Anyway when I was researching portable alternative shelters this was at the top of my list. A good old fashion Wall Tent was at the bottom. In the middle was a sand bag house. I have not seen it mentioned yet but if you take a look at sand bag structures they have merit for sure. 2000 bags on pallet and a shovel and you should be good to go. That being said they do take a little longer to construct but if you like playing in the mud it might work for you.

Cheers

Evenin' Crybaby,

Did those fine folks get back to you?? Is this alternate shelter relatively affordable?? Are you thinking about get one??

It certainly looks like a viable shelter that could be stored compact until needed and then put up in short order.

Cheers,

Mountainman.

Mountainman,

The quote I got for the smaller concrete canvas version 2 yrs ago was $28,516 CND plus 1250 shipping to Calgary. While the price may have changed slightly since I hope this information will allow you assess the potential.

Cheers

JFamily,

Thanks for that. I am not sure about concrete tents, I suspect they speed up initial setup of the structure but are limited in their ability to be moved to another location. Where as the plastic cabins can probably be setup, taken down and moved to another location and setup again.

All is good. I am just trying to learn through the experience of others, so I can make an informed decision when it is my time.

Cheers,

Mountainman.

They went at about $9000 a year ago for a 10x20 cabin, I think, and came plumbed and wired if you wanted.
