Based on appearance, if that guy showed up at my BOL, I would not admit him. Simply by judging him on appearance, I can assume that he has not spent the time to learn any skills that I would deem usefull in a shtf enviroment. I've never seen a hunter look like that. Or a medic, or a homesteader, or a doctor, a soldier, any emergency personnel, or a trapper, or a chef, or a gardener, or a seamstress, or or or or..... Not much else for me to say.

Knowledge, integrity, honesty, the willing to work with others and being able to accept responsibility for their actions. Not every one will be able shoot a tick off of flea at 300 yards, not every one will recognize the difference between chestnuts and the other one. Its the willingness to work to improve the current situation, weather it be designing a Gasifier for a community or doing the labor required for road construction. That is what will define the Man or Woman that would be accepted readily into any striving community. :geek:

Well if SHTF and this thing came to my house with knowledge of any kind I guess I would let it in since in a SHTF scenario I would be utterly amazed if someone like that actually made it to my home. I bet the story would be worth a meal given to it.

My guess is it bought pink by accident because it was mixed in with the camo face paint.

Just a couple of quick observations. After a SHTF event sooner or later people are going to show up at your location weather you bugged in or bugged out. You will no other choice than to make a quick decision on what action to take with that individual. Keep in mind that the very survival of yourself, you family or your group if you have one may well depend on that decision. That decision will be based on your life experiences. For me I might well find the psychology and self image of someone who had multiple facial piercings suspect and would likely not welcome him (or her).

So JAB I am afraid that you would have to judge quickly. Also if we are quoting the good book then: "You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor tattoo any marks on you: I am the LORD. " (Leviticus 19:28).

Basically I am being devils advocate here. Of course we will all have to make decisions if TSHTF and we and our loved ones will live or die based on them. I am simply trying to bring out the discussion on sterotyping and judging based on appearance. Once that begins where does it end? Again we will all make decisions... BUT... keep in mind the best interest... and try to reduce prejudice that may exclude a valuable addition. I think this thread is spiraling a bit... but to answer your question JAB, no, I probobly could not be convinced of that persons claims to having the abilities I needed. If he showed up with a medical degree in his hand, matching identification, a fully operational trauma field kit, and 5 or 6 references from people that I knew in the medical field... then I might consider it 🙂

After reading this thread, I would have to agree with a number of you, The one point that was made and not extended was the point of political correctness..
This has gone way to far to the left and has slowly been eroding our country and the way we are being taught and governed, hate crimes, hate speech and so on need to be monitored and prosecuted.....you get the point....
But Crier and Antsy have nailed it right on, the only problem is one never knows who will rise to the occasion of being able to think clearly and under pressure..
I have seen it time and time again the tough guy macho man in low stress everyday life 'TALK BIG 'man folds up like a wet noodle..so what makes a real man.....Time and Stress will show us........

@Traveller. I agree that political correctness has gone WAY too far. That said I was of the belief that in this forum a man or woman would be judged on who they were and may preppers on here in many different threads have stated that they would not discriminate toward others but make decisions based on the PERSON.... the person they are and what they can do. It would seem that although many of you find this thread and some of the comments on here "freaking hilarious" to me it once again rasies the spectre of a group or individual making a set of parameters based on some arbitrary criteria and then making presumptions and basing actions on them. It was done with the Jews and it has been done with many other groups throuout history. I am NOT Jewish nor am I a left winger. I am solidly conservative. I served my time in the Armed Forces of this country as I believe the values here are worth standing up for. Once this type of behavior begins where does it stop? Who draws the line and who decides the next group of criteria to judge an individual or group? This has nothing to do with Liberalism or Conservatism. It has to do with respect and the rights of a human being to live their life as they see fit. Perhaps YOU will fit the next evolution of criteria to be ridiculed and persecuted.

Hell no, there are two points being made, the political correctness is the clear one, the religious hypocricy the less so, not that there is anything wrong with that (its to be expected), after all what good is a religion if it doesnt if it doesnt back you up what ever way you go, Then it would just be a inferior cult 🙄
I am coming up short on vocabulary, hypocricy might be the wrong word to describe my thought, I should say what good is it if it cant breach accross the cognitive dissconnect created hateing one thing, person, or group while at the same time providing moral superiority to the hater.
