Hello everyone, Happy Holidays.
Most of what I have is already listed, but what is missing is the secondary transport system.
In the summer I use a sport strlloer. It has 3 bycycle wheels which are great over all terrains and can carry a lot of extra things that would be killer on your back. It folds up to be stored inmy jeep or the trunk of the Sweetie's car. I got it at a garage sale for $10.00.
In the winter I have snowshoes and a calf sled. It's a little harder to pull, but it still gets a lot of gear coming with me. Again it sits loaded on the floor in the back of the Jeep, and this small one does fit in her trunk. On sale at Peavy Mart for $39.99. They have larger ones too. I keep a big one at the cabin that can double as a small boat, but it is a tough yank for one person. With two people you could carry lots of family needed items. Costco for $150.00 but has tow bar for ski-doo and a soft cover if you could make use of that.
Hope this helps.
Hmmm, maybe I should rethink the quiet part...
I picked up the Gerber Gorge for my e-tool. im a big fan of the gerber line, and am interested to see how this thing will perform. its comparable in price to surplus items, although it is relativley small. if you google the item and look at some of the videos or pictures you will see that it is really not much bigger then a hand trowel. here is the item if anyone is interested:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=400374885941
I dont think that I will need a full sized surplus shovel or e-tool in my BOB, but having some way to dig (perhaps digging up caches, or burrying something for later... digging up roots, fire pits, covering old fire pits, etc) I think is essential. especially in the winter when the ground is too tough to move with bare hands.
Also, I settled on the Gerber Gator Combo Camp axe II, with the hidden hand saw. lightweight, heavy duty, and multiple uses. if im going to carry tools I want versatility.
Does anyone carry any other tools in their bag? such as a pry-bar or bolt cutters? anything that has not been mentioned yet?
See you all after.

I never any thought of an urban survival pack, always thought of heading away from the city, but I might start thinking of the possibility of needing some tools like that. Thanks
7: USGI 4 piece sleep system adjusted to season
Just curious. Is it something like this:

?
Thanks
Exactly.
I just finished reading one of my Christmas presents...." No Easy Day ".....excellent read by the way.....Now with everything that we are talking about loading and taking here there is no way one person can pack it.....So here again for a bug-out situation, on foot we see and realize the need for team work; to have a group of people on the same page...this meaning each person is responsible for certain items....Just like the teams do in the book...." I had a chuckle about the new guy getting stuck with the sledge hammer"....but In his book he really talks about his " KITS "..and the load out sheets they get for each mission, and that he stressed it is just a guide line..... The teams operate on " big boy rules"...meaning if you dont know by now what you need to load out why are you here....Know, I now what I Load out in my ' Pack'....A.K.A.." KIT".. for "Search and Rescue " and I adjust it to what ever situation may be...[ " It doubles as my bug out bag "]...And what I would like to carry, and what I carry is two different animals....My pack sitting in the storage room ready to for a S.H.T.F.situation is way different then what I carry for a search....Excample...loaded right know it weighs 44 pounds for a search it gets striped down to about 35......
So here is what I propose any of the military guys......gc.......that means you......make a load out sheet.... what you would have packed out in the field for a 3-5 day "op".....This will be our guide line.... load out sheet....I will do the same "as for my" Search & Rescue " pack..A.K.A...S.H.T.F.pack.. then everyone can compare the lists and build there own from there......If you can put weights down and total weight for the Load out...........
Better to have it and not need it; then to need it and not have it...

Traveller,
Them fencing pliers on your pack are not on your list.
I will write a list on my next set of days off. So, no list til 01 Jan 3012 at the earliest. We will see if I can get a total weight. One point that needs to be made, is support. In the military, usually you were resupplied with food, water and other items once every 24 hours. Long range patrols being the exception.
I will be back in touch.
Mountainman.

Went to wholesale sports on the weekend to pick up a folding shovel... they had camo on sale so we ended up buying some heavy winter boots for next November's season (it was too damn cold this past November for the camo gear we normally use!). Ended up spending way too much (ammo is rising in Canada as well it seems).
Picked up this shovel, feels solid enough to use as a weapon as well;
I also have a few other tools that have been mentioned already and which I have field tested with satisfaction;

It adds up to a lot of weight but we will either have a calf sled or a trailer tied to our bikes; or we won't be bugging out on foot. As I've mentioned in other places; we are the bugging-in type unless it is looking like complete societal or imminent environmental collapse with barbarians at the gates.
Hey Dang.. you got ADD?
just joking, read your post, your so exited and the variety. I will be buying a Cold Steel Special Forces shovel, hope they come out with a Russian Shovel as I like them more even.
My Kukri machete is about as good as a small axe so I do not carry one of those anymore, looking to add in Large Branch sheers, the ratchet type. Saw those and was quite impressed. I also carry a small cross cut saw that I picked up from CDN tire, not much difference on weight over the smaller hand saws and boy o boy does it do a great job. That little saw will go through a 6" tree very fast.
addition,
I already have a pack and a blanket coat for the Dog, now looking into making/buying a pulling harness for her. She is 2 1/2 years old so ready to start some pulling sessions and get used to the sled for her. Starting very light and work up to larger. My last Dog, loved pulling logs so much she picked the ones she wanted to pull, although sometimes her eyes were as large as her stomach and I just laughed and said, no that 4' round log is just too big for you!
My Dog now will have her own sled for the winter and rolling cart for the summer. Looking to make the cart, both Silky style (on top of back) and normal pull with side harnesses and poles.
