I am doing a little experiment: I am trying to figure out how much it costs to PREP (in Edmonton) for a family of 4 (2 adults + 2 kids)
The cheapest I can get to is:
$3.06 per day / per person.
($4,467 for the whole year for the family)
This is based on buying all the food from the store - no canning or grow it yourself items. (i used "No Frills" in Morniville)
My meal basis consists of:
Breakfast (coffee / bread / milk (can) / peanut butter / and a hearty bean stew medly)
Lunch (Tea / Bread / Pickles / beans / Tuna / cookies)
Supper (Beef Stew c/w extra can of vegtables + macaroni) / Bread / Mixed Fruit / coffee / milk)
I have a small alloted price for a few extras like: Lard / Sugar / Yeast / Spices

A few things went a bit further than one serving/day (like a jar of pickles, and I really am stretching a loaf of bread) ... But I would be very interested whay "ya all" have figured out for yourselves. I know that if i was to have a garden and can my own (or shoot) my own "extras", that cost should come down... but I'd like to know what you think (and maybe what your menu would be)
(PS - I think I have the basic vitamins etc worked out in my menu - but I'll take any suggestions)
Cheers,

I like your approach. I have never done this in detail but I has figured that for a family of three (mine) I could do it for $9-$10 dollars a day. That is store bought produce with a variety in diet. Real meat, chicken, pork or beef for the main meal. Buy meat on sale, divide to appropriate portions vacuum seal and freeze. Using home grown vegetables, some fruit and eggs plus fish from the lake and some game I can halve that estimate.

good idea to price it out...I would not have PB toast and stew for breakfast... and not crazy about your meal plan...but to each their own...Did you watch the videos I posted on food storage system where you decide on 7 breakfasts, 7 lunches, 7 suppers and make your plan from there right down tot he last spoon of sugar?

I agree - not a "super" meal plan - it a survive thing - not thrive thing. 😀
As I am fairly new to this forum - I have NOT seen your video that you mention - how would i go about seeing it?

Thanks,

JG
