A couple of guys from work were at a drilling contractors lot looking for a semi for our yard. When talking to them they said there was about 100 diesel generators for sale. Seems everything from the year 2000 backwards was to be sold, they are buying all new. From what they said they were
mostly 10 to 50kw. Most running and serviced. I have a 7.5kw that I got for 1000. It has 429 actual hours. It was too small for what they wanted.
I throw this out just to see if there is any interest for preppers. It is not open to the public so if there was an interest I would go and see what they have based on peoples wants. I would appreciate fairly serious buyers if there are any. No idea when the sale ends at this point.
Pro's
Most would be lo tech engines as they are older.
Most are 1800 rpm
Most are under $1,000 (regardless of size I am led to believe). Not sure but new average
$1.000/kw (10kw $10,000)
Con's
Can't really gaurantee anything motor wise or gen end
Even a 10kw is bloody heavy so will have to figure that out as we go. Off the top of my
head a truck and tandem trailer would be required.
Would have to be picked up in Sylvan Lake
I would be the middleman so maybe a few bucks for me. Not trying to get rich off this just trying to offer others what I think is a steal of a deal. If interested best way to contact me is e-mail dbtooke@telus.net

Darren ,
Thanks for looking out. Unfortunately I built my own genset and working on my second or I would have been all over this. However I would be very keen for one of those portable genset/light tower or compressor trailers. I am looking to build an off road trailer and any of the aforementioned would make a good platform. If you could give your contact a bump for me.
Cheers
JFamily, from what you say I assume a dead genset/light tower is OK providing the trailer is intact? Understanding that the light tower is a fairly small footprint. Is that the size you are after?
Darren,
You are exactly correct. I realize the trailers are not that big. I just finished a suzuki sidekick and althought it now has a diesel engine I would not want to be hauling anything to big with it. Keep me posted.
Cheers
