Flies to honey man, flies to honey....
Giving forum members a public spanking for not attending with the intent to sort them out probably is not the best way. It's unfortunate that GPRS didn't get the expected turnout, even with a couple folks seemingly committing to the meet. That said, perhaps the concept used for the last couple attempts of meets in Edmonton isn't working. Folks may simply not want to drive distance "x" for a cup of coffee and maybe meet one person. This is why I proposed something else above.
Would it be nice if meets were more successful? You betcha. But right now the business model doesn't seem to work, so it may be more important to look at alternative ways instead of chastising people for not participating. That said, perseverance will pay off one day.
helico',
I understand the perspective from which you're coming, especially since this is an online "community."
Now here's a taught - pun intended:
Understand that I've known Preppersaurus for well over 25 years; we generally tend to think alike, and are best-buddies and brothers-in-arms.
I have the inclination to voice my opinions - mouth before brain - at times, but online I can moderate that.
I work in an environment that requires diplomacy; so, I speak and write appropriately.
Preppersaurus says it like it is, both online and in person; don't expect any diplomatic BS.
What he says comes from experience and I don't fault him for it.
About the intended meet-up:
Well, hoss and midlifecrisis, since I have no idea in what locale you're living, I can't seriously estimate driving time for you.
I have no idea how helico' could.
Now, one of you could be the person who directly emailed me .... I'll never know.
After muskeg PMd me he couldn't make it due a legitimate reason - for which I accepted, no questions asked - I was only reasonably expecting one, possibly two other persons - hoss & maybe midlifecrisis - to show.
Well, that's all I got to say.
I'll be keeping an eye on the forum for notes of interest, or PMs from members.
I'm turning off my email response now.
I already have a small prepper clique developing locally, and until - much like Preppersaurus - people want to devote face-to-face time, conversation and practise in/at gatherings, I'm not interested in pursuing much else here either.

Along your ideas.. to add to it.. I was looking at my hunting gear.. Many bags for different situations.. A person could also add in time to share ideas on bags. I have three different ones.. Four if you count the week long + bag. It would give ideas to folks that are new to this.. It could help them decide on what kind of bag is more useful to them before spending money on them. My time is fairly limited to when i can get away these days but pending the right day i would bring in my gear. Even bring in the gear i carry in my bag's (other then the rifle).. Only issue is taking up space in a place.
If yall dont like the idea throw rocks at me..
Sounds like a good idea.
There are probably many good places to meet, but I am going to suggest one - very accessible to me at least: the common area meeting/games room in my apartment building. It has more than enough space; has a coffee pot too. I'll donate the coffee and space.
I will also bring my three (GO/BOB) bags as well.
There are many Tim Horton's on the way to my place too - from every access direction. LOL
If everyone is willing to park at the Sobey's next door, then you don't need to sign in during the visit. Plus, to gain access, all you need to do is knock on the meeting room window and I'd open the main door "personally" for you all.
If it is a go, once we have enough interest, I'll advertise the location of the Sobey's and my building by issuing a shared Google map.

That sounds like a good concept gPRS. I've been mulling over the idea to come to Edmonton and offer a free weekend long first aid course for those who could use one. No certificate at the end, but it would be free. My main logistical concern is to get a place to do it... And make sure there is a bit of a turn out. Maybe something to plan for the new year?

as a former St. John Ambulance NITP Phase 1 instructor, and previously qualified in Wilderness First Aid and O2 instruction, I'd love the chance to help out. I can also volunteer the common room space here too, a whiteboard, tables and chairs. I think the space will accommodate 8 comfortably, possibly more.

I'd be interested. I'm on a facebook prepping group but they don't meet that often due to the same reasons. I'm somewhat of an experienced camper and outdoorsman but would like to always develop myself more and see what others are doing. People don't want to get off their butts but we need to work together when things get bad. What are the main topics that people are interested in discussing?
I'm heading to Nisku this Sunday for 5 days. If you guys are planning on anything in the near future, let me know.
I'm in Nisku This week as I mentioned above. As there is a big storm coming in, I'll watch the forums to see if anyone is interested in getting together after the dust settles.
I do have an appt Wednesday night but I'm free otherwise.
I'd be interested in meeting a few of you.
I kind of lost track here, sorry.
I've also been busy at work these last two months. I'm unsure how February is going to be too, but I would like to try for a weekend in March some time.
