Just wondering how many of us are families with young kids under 10 and which city do you live in or near calgary, Edmonton, lethbridge, red deer or Grand Prairie

Preparedness is like a condom , I've rather have it and not need it, rather than need it and not have it

I am from ontario, no where near. But I am curious what your thoughts were. Prepping with kids is alot different then your standard lone wolf side of things.

Wanting to see how many there are in each city but prepping with small kids can be a challenge because you can't really just bug out unless you have somewhere to go even if you plan of bugging out with a trailer take it from me who lived in one with our 4 kids for 6 weeks till we could take possession of our house about 2 weeks in they were done

Yeah I totally hear you. I have thought about it many times. What are some of the preps you have just for your kids? I have alot of coloring books, cards, a few special games and snacks. I keep picking up little toys too, like extra toy cars, orthings like that, so if we ever have to bug in I can keep them entertained and quiet. And if we have to bug out to family farm land then they have a few "comforts".
What have you done thinking about your kids specifically.

Mostly colouring and craft stuff but some toys to mine are 1,5,6,7 and one due in sept so it's not easy with young ones but the trick is keep there minds busy or they go crazy and then drive u crazy
And like the old saying goes no t.v no beer makes homer goes crazy lol

Video games, Ipods and tablets and in the woods they'll even get a Nintendo DS. Such a simple solution your gonna have a litter of toys and junk when they will carry it and care for it themselves self contained.

Yeah I'm in Mississauga Got two 12 & 5. the older boys been in Scouts from day one in Cubs and is an enthusiastic camper, prepper shooter and thinker. Bugging in or out is as scenario dictates and if I have to get to my secondary location I have a few routes planned but hiking out with a 5 y/o is not a real option.

Have you read Ragnars Urban Survival? There is something to learn from it. But his idea about surviving in cities only works for a partial collapse not a full blown collapse. I think he just likes the city. But like all of those books there is precious information to pick up. I recommend reading "Grid Down: Reality Bites" book, really good book. Better that Patriots I think. www.paladin-press.com is something to check out.

You can get workbooks at chapters/indigo that cover the basic curriculum for each grade. Good if one wants to keep them caught up in school. If the SHTF incident is short lived they would have the option of going up a grade or staying behind with friends.
Lego would be my thought. Never ending things to make. And play doh-even if the lighting is dim they can feel it.

Its a tough thing. The biggest thing for us is variety. If we had to bug in for 3 days how do I keep them quiet in a real bad situation. I have a few small toys, coloring books, cards, snacks just for the kids. Same goes with meals, having things the kids will like and eat to make it easier. And bugging out with young kids isn't always an option. It would have to be the cleanest/easiest bug out ever.

I would keep kids busy by putting them to work at the chores with the adults.
Everyone pitches in .
Everyone gets tired
Kids will be more satisfied with those cards and coloring on paper if the option is chores.
