I listen to the news and the interviews that hope to explain the news and the history behind all the troubles. But, I still feel ill informed. I also try to watch the news from other countries to see their interpretations of what is happening. Does anyone have thoughts on what we as preppers in Alberta should consider the important things to watch at this time? There are no right or wrong answers-I'm just wondering what other preppers take is on it all.

My interpretation of what I prepare is in the Good Book the oldest book in the world the BIBLE tells you everything you need to prepare for what is going to happen in our last days

At present there are no threats that I am aware of and I consider myself fairly in the loop. I suspect the ideal thing to prep for is the unknown event. Things such as a storm, flood like Calgarys and High Rivers event, Bizarre viral outbreak, anything that requires you to stay put and bunker down. Also set up your vehicle with a 4 day survival bag... many people have had accidents and found themselves in a ditch unable to get help from the roadway just a 50 feet above them and they died. Having something in your car for such an event not only helps you potentially but it also helps someone else you might happen upon one day who might have been in a wreck.

I think the idea of prepping for war or an attack of any kind is too much and requires big prep's such as a bunker and gas masks and air filtration systems and so on. If you are rich and have the property... lucky you... go to town with that kind of prepping but for the average civilian... storing up on food, water, medicine, vitamins, clothing, and so on is the wise way to go. Plan for the natural disaster and live a full happy life and relax. If you take prepping too far... I think you end up on "high alert" emotionally and become stressed far too much fearing an event that probability wise... won't ever happen and if it does... nothing that can be done about it anyways more than likely.

No matter how good or bad your life is, wake up each day thankful because someone somewhere else right now is fighting for theirs

On the world stage, we Canadians don't have much to worry about at the moment.

Russia, is currently unbalanced, and on the path to becoming a belligerent, aggressive country with plans for territorial expansion, but they are likely going to target the weaker, less supported bordering countries that have less ties (and influence) on NATO as a whole, such as Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus, Ukraine and Estonia. On other fronts,

Just a small clarification: Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia are full NATO members. In theory an attack on them should trigger a collective response from NATO.

Belarus (once considered the last dictatorship in Europe, now followed by Russia) is a very close ally and member of the The Eurasian Economic Union together with Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Armenia. If things remain like this it will be unlikely that Russia will attack them.

I'm not the stay in a bunker for five years-then come out to play with the cockroaches and die slowly from radiation sort. So although I will have hiding places they won't withstand full out war. I am more concerned that the Chinese hacked into some of our computer controled systems. Or the way financial markets keep fluctuating here and in other countries. Or even the amount of solar flares increasing to the point that the US sent up a previously mothballed satalite to monitor them. But-will they even tell us if one is coming ? And where it will hit? And if nature doesn't do it will North Korea step in and help with a missle? I wonder sometimes if anyone would think to attack our tar sands?
We have problems with failed crops in the states creating shortages. Is this just the beginning or a one year thing?
I am prepping for everything except full-out nuclear war,but I'm just curious about all the other stuff going on right now. I saw a bumper sticker that sort of sums it up "where are we going? And why are we in a handbasket?"

Ok, here I go again.
I prep for the WORSE CASE SCENARIO. That doesn't include job loss, localized flooding, tornado's, or even stock market collapse. It does include food disruption, solar flares, EMP (natural or man made), zombie apocalypse (a catch all for any world wide, life threatening pandemic), and of course WW3.
Looking at the world stage, I wholeheartedly disagree with anyone who thinks we are safe and sound up here in the great white north. I also disagree with those who feel that prepping is about keeping a bug out bag in the closet and a good pair of boots by the door. I also disagree with those who feel that prepping is about keeping a well rounded investment portfolio.
Now, don't get all upset. I'm not saying that any of the above are bad things to do. They're all good, but here's the thing:
If you live in an area prone to flooding and you don't have your valuable papers in waterproof containers and a good pair of waders, then you're more than unprepared, you're stupid.
If you're playing in the stock market, then you should always do so with the understanding that you are at risk of loosing all your money at any time. It's the nature of the market, and ignoring that risk is much the same as the unprepared guy living in the flood zone.
So, what should we be most concerned about? In short, we should be concerned about everything.
We should be concerned about our food and water supply being disrupted due to any number of possibilities, both natural and man made.
We should be concerned about how skilled we are as nations to kill each other, and how we seem to be setting the stage to show off our skills on a level not seen since WW2.
We should be concerned that the world we are leaving behind for the next generation(s) is one full of boundless corruption, planet killing pollution, artificial everything, etc...
Just in case you're wondering, I don't have a tin foil hat. I do wonder sometimes if the guys that do have them know something I don't, so I won't throw out my old bike helmet and keep a fresh roll of tinfoil on hand just in case.
That, my friends is what my prepping is all about. It's made up of two parts.
Part 1 - have to know how to survive in the face of extreme adversity
Part 2 - have the supplies needed to fulfill the requirements of Part 1

I'll climb back in my hole now. Thanks for listening! 😆

I can agree more to being prepared for anything besides floods and job loss and such
But in regards to people actually be ready I don't think anyone is ever gonna be ready with enough stuff let alone mentally

Preparedness is like a condom , I've rather have it and not need it, rather than need it and not have it

I am a believer that any prepping is good. It doesn't matter why, just that you do.
Some people pay more attention to events and theories than others and that's okay too.
I have been consummed by the prepping bug as well and now have found an even keel. Mostly because I sit beside an alien in church who's cousin is one of the 300 who control the planet. Oh yah and the 7 implants make me do all sorts of nutty things...

Floods do happen, jobs can go away, a metiorite could hit and the devil is always looking for a new way to pull the rug out. As long as you have massive fire power, lot's of potato chips and two years supply of TP along with a first aid kit and a really long pair of booster cables you are going to be okay.

Hmmm, maybe I should rethink the quiet part...

You're right. Being prepared for emergencies is good on any level. Limiting yourself with respect to the nature of the emergency you might encounter is bad. We're talking "Titanic" kind of bad. I'm sure they had extra champagne and caviar in storage just in case the first class passengers partied a bit more than expected on the voyage across the Atlantic.
They were prepared for what they believed could happen.
I want to be one of the five or six people that lived through the event, even though they weren't initially allowed in a lifeboat.
The parallels here are practically endless. I could go on forever.

To extend the Titanic metaphor and add a simile, The Titanic was a lot like the Maple Leafs; both looked really good until they hit the ice. 😆

Understanding that there is no way for me to be prepared for every possible contingency, I choose to focus on the preps that I feel are likely or even inevitable. I can't worry too much about WWIII or a meteor hitting our little planet because I can't control the events, or predict the outcome. Perhaps that makes me "not stupid" instead of a "prepper"; I can live with that. I'm interested in being prepared... just not at the expense of living a life in the world as I'm worried it could be versus the world as it is.

I totally agree with making the nessesary preps and (other than adding to or rotating food supplies) just getting on with life. I've seen shows where people spend all their time, energy and resources on planning for whatever and little time living in the present.
