How has your fall gone so far for ducks, geese, deer, moose or elk?? I have one deer all processed and am on the hunt for two more to complete the meat portion of my hunting. 4 geese turned into jerky and 8 grouse and i bought 12 quail from a guy a few doors over, i should get those in the next four to six days.

Not one of the 47 people that looked are hunters?? Its the best prep.. Gets you exercise, practise with your rifle, patience, tests your out door clothing, makes you realize how long it takes to hike a distance with a pack on and your animal on a cart or lashed to your back..

And that is why I hunt. I like to hunt coyotes, that way I'm not bound to a season like with other game.

2 deer fully cut and wrapped in the freezer. 1 more to process tomorrow. And hopefully an elk to add to the freezer as well by the end of the month. As to the coyote hunting.......haven't found a good recipe for dog yet.

I'd be willing to try the stew; and, have a chat.
I'm actually going east of the city this weekend to check out a couple of "homes for sale" that I think look promising.

There is one home south, within an hour's drive of the office, as well that meets most of my needs but it is rather old ....
Still might go check that one this weekend, if the snow doesn't make the roads too bad.

I won't risk travel with my boy if the roads are bad..

How far east of Edmonton are you, Justdoit?
The town I want to check out is Chipman.

Take your 1yr old dude to Cabela's?
That's interesting....

I'm out by south cooking lake, south of highway 14.

Do you see a problem with taking a 1 year old boy to Cabelas? They supposedly have a child's chair i would like to get him. He always hogs mine and sleeps in it for hours on end..

Well, I guess then if you're specifically looking for something the wee dude, then I understand.
Just thought it odd, at first, taking a 1 yr old to a place like Cabela's.
... kind of like when I see parents bringing babies into movie theatres ....
Not that I should be one to tell a parent what activities they should or should not be doing with their children.
I am definitely not one of those kind of people.

I was just being more rhetorical in the statement:
"Take your 1yr old dude to Cabela's?
That's interesting ...."

I understand.. and now i don't need to.. the good folks at JD in camrose brought in a chair for my son for me. even better.. It's JD green and yellow... 🙂

My son has everything he needs from Cabelas already.. i found him some good mittens when i was in there with my ole man.. Looks like MEC down town is the place to get a snow suit thats good.

BTW.. I would NEVER in my life take a 1 year old to a movie theatre.. Not a chance.. Nore at two or even three.. We stick to out here more then ever.. I found a pull down screen and a projector for 125 bucks and plugged it into my dvd player for when we want to have a movie night. Its paid for itself just by watching two movies.. if you figure in fuel, time and cost of movie. plus this way i can enjoy a beer and pause the movie when the time arises for another beer... 😉

We have not had much luck this year. There are 3 couples so plenty of tags but it is getting harder to find 'friendly' farmers who want animals removed and the crown land we are familiar with is getting quite crowded.

Only 5 deer so far amongst us and it looks like a moose tag may go to waste as well as all the other supplemental deer tags.

We have 2 more weekends, so there is still hope but it has been a very frustrating year. Especially when you see dozens of animals, once a herd of 10, all behind the "no trespassing", "no hunting" signs on the way from the city to the crown land.

I think the problem is too many people wants to hunt and no animals to shoot because there are groups of people who poach because they don't have hunting restrictions or need to buy tags. I wish everyone was treated the same and all need to buy tags and follow the hunting season restrictions so the animals are not being poached.

Hunting big game is great for meat to smoke and preserve but when shtf longer than a month, I know there will be a lot of conflict and it will be more dangerous hunting big games than traping small game. Learn how to do both and you will be prepared would be the best option and never rely on one way over the other.

I want to hunt coyote and see how they taste. No tags and hunt whenever. Darn pests. And always kill animals humainely, don't let them suffer.

The Bucks started chasing the does around up here.. I hope your luck changes. I managed a nice doe in the freezer today just before sun down. The snow is getting worse and we are getting more. I might stop to see what a set of cross country skis would be worth. I would love one of those sleds that you can attach to a sled or to a waist band and pull..
