I'm not trying to promote sugar use as a 'must have' part of your diet but most people use sugar daily in one form or another. If you read the label on 'No Sugar Added' products you will most likely see 'High Fructose Corn Syrup' added to the product. Guess what... that 'High Fructose Corn Syrup' is almost guaranteed to be derived from GMO corn. OK, lets turn to table sugar, it must be safe right? Maybe not... http://www.cban.ca/Resources/Topics/GE-Crops-and-Foods-On-the-Market/Sugar-beet Well OK, it probably isn't since 2009. There is another path you can take that is safe for now, Redpath. So far Redpath sugar products are made from non GMO sugar cane.

Personally I use Redpath Demerara sugar almost exclusively. I can tell you that Redpath Demerara beats the crap out of Rogers Demerara hands down. Rogers makes their sugar white then adds molasses to make it 'brown' or 'demerara'. Redpath takes sugar cane, beats the crap out of it then evaporates most of the water out of it leaving pure raw demerara sugar the natural way. Less processing = healthier product in my books. The sugar cane source of the raw sugar is encouraging as well.

BTW searching the nutritional difference between Demerara and white sugar is quite enlightening. If you worry about the nutritional value of your foods I would suggest you look it up. http://www.sugarindia.com/bcomprassion.htm

Humor me here, take your favorite oatmeal cookie recipe and substitute the white sugar with 1/2 the volume of demerara sugar. I'll bet that you don't even miss the extra sugar and enjoy the richer flavor of demerara sugar added to your baking. Demerara also adds something to the flavor of your coffee that you won't find with white sugar and it more than just nutrients that are processed out of white sugar. I might cause a few demerara addicts here but it's a healthier choice than 'processed to near death' white sugar.

Just some food for thought. (pun intended)

Enjoy and don't forget to brush after your sweet evening treat!

DISCLAIMER: I have no connections with the demerara sugar industry other than being an end use consumer. I like demereara sugar for many reasons so I will promote it.

Then= I first became hungry then I ate.
