If the US dollar collapses, Is there any one in Edmonton preparing for the out come?
I think there are quite a few Preppers in and around Edmonton, preparing for much more than just the US economy collapsing. Welcome to the forum Midlifecrisis.
I am American, and am dealing with the IRS coming after ALL American,s living outside of the USA, even one,s who have never worked a day of their life in the US.
I am prepping for the REAL situation that has already started as the US goverment goes after all our bank accounts, assets, and retirment founds
I am preparing to be homeless and with out a bank account or assets, after 37 yrs of a good life in Canada
All this at the same time that the US dollar is very close to a collaps
SOMETHING is going to happen soon, and everything I have read in the last yr worns us to be ready to head to the hills, away from the big citys
Cash in the can burried in the yard...
careful on heading to the hills here.. just like down south the guys that have been in the hills are very protective.. Try to get to know where your going and people there. It's a long row to hoe but worth it in the end..
Midlife - I can agree with helicopilot. There is a strong contingent of preppers spread well through Alberta - Calgary, Edmonton, Lethbridge the south and the north, etc. Sends chills through my blood as I consider various scenarios and how proud I would be to stand with many I have interacted with here in this province.

Hi midlifecrisis, my wife and I are based out of Calgary. I am also American, my wife Canadian, so I understand what you are feeling. The states (and most of the world that follow in its steps) has become a scary thing to look at. This is a great site to start though. It is so easy to network and then eventually meet fellow local preppers. Keep a lookout on the forum for "meetings" and try to attend. They always have well experienced locals giving advice, meet and greets, and inevitably you end up making local connections. Cheers.

To keep your real money (PM's) in your control, a post hole auger, a well built/sealed, ABS/PVC pipe vault, tight lips and a good memory are your best friends. Just make damn sure you are not being watched when you install or visit your secluded vault. Hide any evidence of the install and/or your visits. I would also suggest digging a few holes, less concealed for decoys. It's a lot of work but it brings security to the real stash'. If you must keep a map, code it so only you or a trusted partner will understand. (Range Road [+2] and Township Road [TWP +2] for example). If you are discovered/seen while digging/servicing your vault, MOVE IT!
Safety deposit boxes in the USA have been raided by government agencies in very recent years. How long before the trend moves north?
Just saying...
Than= I’d rather be rich than poor.
Then= I first became hungry then I ate.
There = She is there now.
Their = They have their things.
They're = They're going to the mall.
To = They came to the house.
Too = That's too bad.
BTR;
the only eyes on me the last weekend were a bear or two while I was caching provisions in the mountains.
My advice about caching: hide in plain sight but concealed by nature itself, i.e. big piles of bear droppings tend to act as great deterrents to would-be scroungers.
Also, place extra caches nearby in alternate hidey' holes or tied to high parts of trees, i.e. conifers (pines) which don't change colour much, nearby as secondary caches just in case.

Is what you say worth at least a Canadian nickel now?
Cause two cents ain't worth squat anymore !

Did you smack the bear upside the head with your shovel to refocus or confuse it's memory? (JOKING!)
There are 3, possibly 4 reasons I would kill a bear.
1) A threat to my health and security. (the bear checking my situation out and showing interest or flat out attacking me or my position)
2) Going after my safely stored food supply repeatedly for an extended period of time. (how safe will I be when I go for that food supply?)
3) A great scarcity of food. If survival comes down to either me or the bear eating, the bear loses if I have or can make the means to close the deal.
4) and this is a stretch.. If that bear hide+fur (bugs and all) is what might separate me from freezing to death, I'll take the coat right off his back.
I do like bears, I do think they are pretty cool critters. If the means are in my hands, I value my own life more than I value a bears life.

BTR, I agree with your points, and wish I had a permit to carry a sidearm in the backcountry, but that is discussed on another discussion thread. Luckily for me, I had my bear banger and bear spray handy during my activities in the bush.
