I'm looking to purchase a variety of non-hybrid/non-GMO seeds, hopefully from a reputable retailer in Alberta and wondering if anyone has found a retailer that carries quality seeds for medicinal purposes, food sources including grain.
Hi, I mail order heritage seeds from saltspring seed on the west coast. All kinds, even Quinoa and wheat.

Any seed packages in the stores that say" Heritage" or "Heirloom" are the ones you want...McKenzie seeds are great! There is a company in the USA called MRE DEPOT that I ordered "10 cans of variety of heirloom seeds from, but most of them can be found in our stores!
Does anyone know if there is an Alberta source for sprouting seeds that would fit in this category? Thanks,

You can pick up cress, broccoli, radish, mung bean in seed packages at most stores including canadian tire, you can buy dry beans/peas at any food store/ health food store and put any of these in a mason jar with water/ put cheese cloth and twist lid back on or use rubber band to hold cloth on, then drain and put in (do that a few times each day) and they will all sprout
It's hard to find non gmo seeds in retail stores, however local green houses will carry them as well as in lethbridge there is a store call In Case Of which sells emergency food and other supplies and they carry non gmo's as well as sprouting mixes that can be grown in your kitchen
UFA stores have heritage/heirloom seeds I noticed on a recent trip.
Has anyone ever imported Heirloom seeds from the USA?
Why would you want to? There are several Canadian suppliers.
CDN suppliers don't carry as many heirloom seed options as US suppliers.

I have ordered a huge veriety of seeds from both West Coast Seeds and Heritage Harvest Seeds. I thought Heritage had a great selection of heirloom seeds but I guess it all depends on what you are looking for.
I'll have to check-out Heritage Harvest Seeds. Has anyone ever used soil blockers? If you've never heard of them, google it.

Given our climate, are the heirloom seeds from Canada a better choice since they would have grown here successfully in years past? Some of the US climate zones have long, long growing seasons and might work well, but I would be concerned without reading very carefully the length of frost free days etc that are required. My gardening hasn't been as productive as I would like 🙁

on councilforresponsiblegenetics.org there is a safe seed list that includes seeds in Canada
