How did this go?
Did anyone make it out on such short notice?

It was good... except there was someone taking pictures of the attendees so I'm probably on another government list now.

some titbits that I learned was:
-flooded lead acid batteries are still the way to go but in a few years lithium will be cheaper,
-when you buy a gas stove make sure it has an automatic pilot light (the ones with glow bars use a lot of electricity),
-avoid things with moving parts e.g. sun trackers and wind turbines because they break down at the worst times,
-quality diesel generators are the most cost effective to operate.

the power point slides from the evening can be viewed here:

"-avoid things with moving parts e.g. sun trackers and wind turbines because they break down at the worst times,"

If built properly a well planned low output DIY wind turbine can be your best friend when the grid goes down. Mind you that is pretty 'fringe' idea according to some on this website so you had best dash that thought. The UN doesn't exactly approve of you generating your own electricity so it isn't exactly approved by this website.
