The best you can do would be to take a course with Mors Kochanski. He's up in the Whitecourt area. The best in Canada, and one of the most respected in the world. There is a fellow out in Rocky that has been teaching a little, I'd have to look look for his name. If you can track her down Connie G. is a student of Mors and is very talented and one of the most dynamic outdoor educators in Alberta.

In Lacombe there are a couple of guys with lots of experience and teach occasional weekend/custom courses, but they are very busy with other things.

If needed I can put you in touch with most of these people.

Mors will be teaching a 7 day course in early August. Last communication I had with them, there were still slots open. There is a good chance that I will be volunteering/assisting with that course as well.

That Mors Kochanski wrote the book "Northern Bushcraft" which is now called "Bushcraft". Very applicable to Alberta environment.

Here's Mors' website - http://www.independent-adventurers.com/mors/

I don't think he hosts courses/workshops on his own, just for nonprofit outdoor groups and for profit companies.

Karamat Wilderness Ways in Wildwood (www.karamat.com) is the only Alberta company I'm aware of.

Karamat is the most reliable method to contact Mors for those of us in western Canada. He is semi retired and has cut back on teaching obligations. Although he still travels to speak and present workshops around north america. If you have the chance to take courses with Mors, do it, the man is a legend and truly one of a kind.
