I remember the pride I took in being a Canadian as a child. In 1967 they gave a (brass alloy?) coin to every grade school student in Canada. Many were cherished, for a while and some were discarded or lost in a very short period of time. Try to find one now.
Unfortunately a series of Prime Ministers who were more concerned about personal wealth and the wealth of friends, held office for an extended period of time. Many laws were written to take away rights and privileges of normal law abiding Canadians. Very few laws were written to reenforce Canadian rights and privileges.
Being Canadian is a hell of a lot different than it was 46 years ago. This raises a few questions.
1) Am I glad I live in Canada? Hell yes! There is no shortage of worse places to live.
2) Am I proud to be a Canadian? Not nearly as much as I used to be, back in the day when the RCMP were respected world wide.
3) If I am not pleased with the way Canada is going why don't I leave? Most of the world has turned into an outhouse as far as politics go. I would prefer to live on the maim floor as opposed to 'the basement suite'.
The coming of Trudeau 2.0 scares the hell out of me. I'm getting damn tired of voting for 'the least worst guy' instead of voting FOR somebody.
