Well I would like to give a great big thanks to all that attended our May meeting, it was a huge success with 30 people attending and and even bigger thanks to all our speakers...Bree and Igsbrooks you did a fantastic job with your info and your presentation....Thanks to gc-mountainman for a riveting look inside a true hostile and personal account of what a S.H.T.F..Situation would look like from his experiences in Croatia and excerpts from writings of others that have been there....Also his generous donation of his book; THE G.O.O.D PLAN as a door prize......Also I would like to thank buggie for his inside view of what we can or can not expect from your emergency service's first responders it was a good inside view as to how they would have to operate in a large scale event and how resources would be stretched to there limits..

We will be looking to do another meeting around the mid August point possibly coordinating with the red deer group to have an Alberta wide or possibly a western Canadian get together.....Stay tuned we will keep you up to date in the near future....And Again thanks to everyone for attending, it was fantastic to see that many people out....

My wife and I (the young couple that showed up late and sat in the back) had a great time! Sorry we had to leave early, we hated to miss what was to come. I look forward to the next meeting and hope to network more with local Calgarian preppers. My wife and I live in central NW Calgary and would enjoy communicating with other locals. We weren't there long enough (she was called into work) to chat so I am just going to throw a quick meet and greet out there for anyone curious. I am an inventor from Tennessee with skills in DIY alternative energy (solar, wind, thermal, etc). Emily is very skilled with knowledge of the land (wildlife, plant life, what to eat, what not to eat) and gardening from growing up with her ex-military, survivalist, organic farmer, phd geologist father and green thumb mother, who is a teacher. We want to increase our knowledge on practical food storage, bushcraft for Alberta and aquaponics. Everything else is interested too, but those things we know the least about and have the most interest to learn. Anyone willing to share knowledge on anything, send me message! Thanks and we truly enjoyed the meetup.

PS. We are also recording musicians as a career.

Regards

Tucker & Emily

Hello, I am so glad a few of us from the Central area could make this meeting. The presentations were fantastic and very helpful. Thank you and congratulations to those folks who spoke in front of the group.
It was great to see some people I had met before and say hello to some I only knew through posts and PM's. There were new faces there too which is great to see and of course some folks couldn’t make it this time, but all in all this was a great get together.
The BOV and BOB demos were great and I definitely took notes. Seeing ideas and hard work bring forth something helpful to others makes for a great day.
It was discussed that the Central group and this South Central group work on an Alberta wide meeting for possibly July or August so that people from all parts of the province can have time to plan for it.
Keep posting friends, have a great summer and hopefully many of us can get together for a great day again soon.
QM

Hmmm, maybe I should rethink the quiet part...

Howdy Folks,

Wow have we ever progressed from 6 strangers in a parking lot in Bragg Creek. Hard to believe it is only a little over a year since that very first meeting.

Imagine if all members were able to attend the same meeting??? We would need a few more chairs, LOL.

August may be a good month for a meet in Central AB. Weather should be fine. Other distractions and commitments should be minimal.

I am glad so many folks were able to attend.

Cheers,

Mountainman.

Hi everyone! Sorry it took me so long to get this information posted...here are the websites I referred to at the meeting:

Healthy Calculator (to check your BMR-Basal metabolic rate, Calorie Intake Calculator on the right side list will tell you what your caloric intake should be, break down into protein/carbs/fats

Yuri Elkaim ,BPHE,RHN, Professor, Super Nutrition Academy has fantastic information on his you tube videos and website regarding healthy food choices/exercise ...I shared his information on required 5% protein intake

About.com Latter-day Saints & go to basic beliefs, food storage calculator & fill out section on how many people/ages you are preparing for & it will list amounts of basic essentials for food storage ...there are many sites that have different amounts suggested, so one that seemed better to me was per adult 150-200 lb of meat (breaks down to 1/2 lb a day), 600-700 lbs of fruits/veg, 90 lbs beans, 100 lbs oats, rice, 200-300 lbs flours, 60 lbs fats/oils, 50 lbs salt, min 375 gal water, 48 cans condensed milk/75 lbs powdered milk

Wendy Dewit has a free pdf called Everything under the sun, her system for food storage using meals you already feed your family right down to the last tsp of salt. Check out her You tube video seminar, I posted it somewhere else on forums look under food storage or just go to you tube

Teresa Foster, I purchased her cookbook/labels for $100 and it is well-worth it! Love her system of storing food and using that food everyday...especially her weekly meal plan cooking beans/rice/lentils it is fantastic! Her videos are on you tube, she has a site called 3Dhealthnet, and her system you can find under My Whole Foods Kitchen.
Between these 2 women I have food peace of mind in my food storage and have purchased much from Thrive, Bulk Barn, Walmart is where I choose to find my containers (and reuse plastic Epson salt containers)

Solutions from Science is where I purchased the 3oz Paratrooper water filters and replacement filters
Briden Solutions is where we got the straw type water filter

For your gardens/blueberry bushes etc. to test acidic/alkaline soil I shared this test that could be done without store chemicals...
2 mason jars with a handful of soil in each
in one add 1/2 cup vinegar and if it bubbles your soil ph is alkaline (add sulphur or pine needles to lower the ph
in the other jar add 1/2 cup water & 1/2 cup baking soda and if it bubbles your soil is acidic. Amend soil with lime or small amounts of wood ash to boost alkalinity.

I also shared that I was crocheting 4' long bandages for our medical kits at home and for first aid kits (initial for the DOVE Bandage Brigade to be shipped to Vietnam for use there with people who have leprosy as they can be reused, bleeched, washed and hung to dry) as if SHTF you eventually run out of regular bandages so to have these ( & a large safety pin with each one) is a great way to prepare for that. There seemed to be some interest in if I would sell them for those who do not crochet and I though I had not thought of it before I agreed that I could do that, I will need to figure out a suitable price but I will do them as time allows if you care to sign up and state how many you would like, on a first come first serve basis (it takes about 2 days of solid crocheting to make one so please keep that in mind). I have 2 orders already so please pm me or let me know on here if you would like to be added to that list....I also would encourage those that do crochet to join us in making these the information and instructions can be found under DOVE Bandage Brigade.

Hope you find this information useful!
