Duff,
Have you tried the Business Development Bank? They have a mandate to help out small Canadian business. Also, I think that the ATB advertises itself as an alternate resource for small Alberta business.
Have you put together a business plan? It is an important document to have particularly when you are looking for investors. A business plan basically shows that you have done your diligence for the venture. It will show your projections for overhead costs, inventories, suppliers, sales, and ultimately profits. All of this homework will give prospective investors the confidence that they will need to part with their money. 😉
As I said on the phone, I would be happy to donate some store fixtures to the cause.
Best of luck in your endeavor.

Well this may not be of any help but I will throw it out there.
I am getting rid of a warehouse bay in Nisku. If you have a car hauler trailer and nothing to do this weekend here is what you get 1 electric fork lift and charger , 3 sections of pallet racking (36ft long), office desk and chair, 10 foot long sales counter, You haul it away its yours, come Monday or Tuesday it gets sent off to Ryans scrap metal ( after I pull the electric motors out of the lift). this is only worth it if you have a car hauler and the time to burn a tank of gas, the fork lift and other stuff is not worth it if you have to hire someone to haul it to Calgary. The battery pack in the fork lift is shot, was shot when I bought it 8 years ago, it only holds a charge for 30 maybe 40 minutes run time then needs to be charged up. a new battery pack is 7000.00 so needless to say its only good if you have the odd truck to unload, Though what I did in the shop was drop a cord of 10/3 sow down from the center of the warehouse bay ceiling , mount a Miller xmt 304 welder behind the seat, set it to CV mode and dialed in the voltage to 48 volts, jumped pins A and B in the 14 pin amp connector (to trigger the output) and then I could use the forklift all day long, worked great that way (likely not ohsa approved 😀 ) . anyway if you think you can use it its yours, Someone will be in the warehouse most times over the weekend hauling things out.
almost forgot a 1 ton Kito electric chain hoist on a 14 foot I beam stand, though that's for sale.
Give a man a gun, and he can rob a bank. Give a man a bank, and he can rob the world.
Thanks everyone but do have a plan and inventory list but the banks are saying I need more money from myself or investors to qualify for any loans
