I've been shopping at Lee Valley. I bought a water bag that one can put in their wheel barrow and fill with water. Comes with a mat so it won't slip out if you tip to pour. The other thing I got was the kit of metal brackets to build raised beds with 2x4s and patio stones. I noticed in the instructions that it can alternately be used for water storage. Basically you sink it two feet in the ground, add a liner and lid and it'll hold about 800 liters depending on the size of your patio stones.
A think pictures are worth a 1000 words... Any chance you have a website link or pictures of your new acquisitions?
So are you focused more on outdoor storage?
There are evaporation and algae issues to consider.
As far as the water bag for moving water around the yard in the wheel barrow I think it's a good way to go for small applications like chickens, small animals, small garden beds etc. If you only have one or two large animals it would work too. However it does mean several trips for many applications, which can be good exercise too.
Having dark coloured rain barrels on stands at least three feet off the ground means you can gravity feed all around your yard with hoses as long as the bottom of the barrel is higher than where the water is going. Less chance of the algae growing, but if you are using the water quickly the bag in the ground could work just as well if it can be placed on high ground.
If you have a well it's nice to have something to pump into for storage that allows it to breath. Gets rid of the sulfur smell and if you let it drop about 4 - 6 feet when loading it adds a little oxygen.
Hmmm, maybe I should rethink the quiet part...
Sorry I'm not tech-savy enough to take you straight to it but if you go to leevalley.com in the gardening section the 80litre water bag is # WT321
And the Raised -Bed kit is XK651 I plan to use it for raised bed but thought it was interesting as a water storage container.
They also sell extra connectors for a larger bed and the hardware if you'd like to build a cover.
