Is anyone other than Zaug Stoves making a good-looking rocket stove? I see a lot of custom-made designs that are quite nice, but they all seem to rely on either an oil drum or a couple of old propane bottles.

Some of those rocket-stove masonry heaters turn out really nice, quite beautiful. I am particularly fond of the small floor area they occupy, compared to a thermal mass like is commonly placed beyond the rocket stove combustion chamber.
OTOH, I question whether these masonry bells are capable of storing and releasing heat as long as a good thermal mass can. They seem like an excellent way to remove all the heat from a burn, but I suspect you need a continual/regular fire to keep the room warm.
For anyone with an inclination toward rocket stoves, I stumbled on to this guy's video of a rocket stove design he's been developing over several iterations:

He doesn't run it through a thermal mass, but seems to think that he's extracting most of the heat that the furnace generates, anyway, and when he switches to gasifier mode, the burn is so slow that it sounds like it is competitive with thermal mass "run times". It's pretty phenomenal stuff. In addition to the standard rocket stove tricks, he has added air preheating using the base of the heat exchanger, the potential to supply combustion air from an external source, sealed fuel supply chamber with a window, and convection-driven secondary air feed for slow-burn gasification.
Not as pretty as a Zaug, but some excellent seat-of-the-pants engineering.

Looks like it has airwash primary air over the front glass, and convective secondary air, draft control on both. Small burn chamber, really only suitable for small living environments.
