Hello, I'm new to this forum. Just wanted to say hi and I will be relocating to the Cherryville Area! Out of curiousity, anyone here worried about Dec 21, 2012? ( I don't mean to sound like I'm poking fun at anyone..) My wife is really worried and as the clock ticks, things are getting crazy!!! Anyone else dealing with the same?
Hi LC_67
Whilst we try not to set too much store in the interpretation of Centuries old information (Mayan Calendar / Dead Sea Scrolls / Ravings of Nostrodaumus) etc, there is a general sense of the clock ticking... and getting louder. The whole reason we Prep at all is because we listen and react - just don't over react.
Think of the more reasonable possibilities for disaster in your area first - ours is Earthquake followed by Economic collapse. Prep for those. Then expand your "what if" scenarios and re focus your preps. After that you should be set up for almost anything and by extension, it doesn't matter if it's the Mayan prophecy or the US Economic Cliff, you will be better off than many others.
We are prepping for an eventuality that many of us hope never comes about. In that frame of mind, we also booked a trip to Disney with the kids for Feb 2013... Hows that for optimism?'

Hello one and all, I have only discovered your site tonight (honestly after watching Nat Geo's "Doomsday Preppers" and checking google)
Ok, so anyway I'm in the shallow end of the pool of prepper knowledge so I'm a sponge ready and willing to learn and share what I can.
So Kamloopsian's and territory I'm game to set a date and meet anyone interested, so I'll be bold enough to say I'm gonna start simple and prepare a rendezvous at Timmy's on Columbia (by SuperStore so it's easy to find).
Friday November 30, 2012 at 20:00hrs (8pm civy time) either I'll make a new friend or I'll enjoy a large 2 cream, one sugar alone.. HA!!
I'll be there wearing a Green Saskatchewan Roughriders (big S on a green hat for the uninitiated)
(short notice but it'll get things started I hope and I'm always open to other invitations!)

Hey there,
New to the site and semi-new to prepping. I have plenty of hunting, fishing, and camping gear a'plenty from my hobbies. I have some water stores but I'm looking for some space and budget conservative options for food. Currently I'm thinking that those buckets from bakers filled with MRE's or something of the like might be a good start.
I'm interested to hear about everyones ideas and choices on food storage and quantities of ammunition necessary for preps
Cheers

Thanks dollyndrew. That's my philosophy. I've spend many years as a "first responder" working for the city dealing with everything from flooding, earthquake, MVA's, Hazardous materials and other weird things. I'm trying to keep my wife calm, but it's been hard! 😮
Earthquake and economic collapse is more what I'm prepping for. We're looking to move east of Vernon, where we are now working to complete our purchase of a modest 10 Acre land in the Agricultural Land Reserve, so we can grow our own food - mostly lifestyle choice, but a little more self sustainability too. Over time, we'd like to get a bigger greenhouse and some solar panels etc.. try to be as off grid as possible - in case it ever has a problem.
I appreciate the support. May have to start adding some valerian herb to my wife's tea 🙂 to help calm the anxiety..

Greetings everyone,
Very curious dialogue indeed, I'm beginning to prep as a realization of all the things and abilities that I did and should still be doing that I grew up with in the prairies that now seem "past tense".
It would seem many of you are already at the point that I need to get back to. ie: gardening, canning, self sufficiency for periods of time (growing up we would get snowed in for 3 days before the plows could get to us when I was kid, but we had enough stuff in the basement in cold storage that we celebrated these surprise days away from school! ... of course our mothers would send us boys around to check on the elderly neighbours)
But the one thing I remember well was in those days we would take care of our neighbours, garage building, roofing parties, cooking outside in the middle of winter, using kerosene lanterns etc.
So off I go on this journey to hone skills lost, learn new ones and encourage those around me (friends and family) to check what preparation they have as well.
For example after the Quebec Ice Storm of 1998 western Canada generator suppliers were scrambling to send units to Quebec to meet the need. Again in the summer of 2003 generators and waterpumps could not be found when we needed them in our own backyard as BC'ers had to be ready at a moments notice to "bug out" around the Interior.
These were temporal and isolated situations but history speaks to how people need to prepare to "Bug in" in a frozen wasteland (Quebec) or "Bug Out" in advance of a threat that must be evaded (Fires of '03) a national or global threat and loss of infrastructure for an extended period of time would bring its own set of variables to "prep" for.
But I'm of the conviction of "Many hands make light work", know your people and work together as there is strength in numbers and wisdom to be shared... so off I go to make a bigger checklist and research more!
Cheers

threecords,
Welcome. Good on you for taking the bull by the horns and starting a meetup. I hope it is well attended. I am not currently in your neck of the woods, but I like to keep an eye on progress in your area. I would like to believe there are a lot of like-minded folks in the Kamloops area and once you all start meeting up and get to know one another you will quickly get a group plan developed.
All the best,
Mountainman.
Thanks Mountainman,
Came up dry this time but that's ok... I'll probably throw it out one more time I just have to check my schedule.
Of course always open to meeting travellers if they are going through town or if someone has another time that works better for them.
Take care!

I am from the Blue River area new to the Preppers network we have been striving to be totally prepared for anything... big job in this area nice to meet other folks on here
Hello ThreeCords,
Sorry I could not make it but work calls. If you want to set up another time I will see if I can make it. I would say that I am more of a tactical prepper and like Mountainman I belive in order to survive there must be safety in numbers.
Threecords and company,
Looks like there is some re-newed energy on this thread, maybe a meeting or two will be possible, soon. I highly encourage another attempt to get a meet up while the energy is high. Then this thing should start to roll like a snowball going down a big hill, just needs a couple little pushes to get started then it just goes.
catharinexthecreek,
Welcome. You may want to read around these threads a bit. I beleive SGKelley is just up the valley from you in Valemount. If a few more members join up or start to speak up,it may prove that there are like-minded folks from Kamloops to McBride to P.G. Could be the entire Thompson and Fraser headwaters areas are full of folks who are self-sufficient or at the very least prepared for what may come.
Best of luck over there. This Forum and this thread are a tool at your disposal, I hope you can make the most of it.
Cheers,
Mountainman.
I work out of town alot. I would like to meet up but scheduling is a tough one

Well hello SilverShark! I'm fairly new to this site as well but seems to be a great network.
