Exactly syn. Your prep supplies can be taken at anytime. Maybe I am misinterpreting that one though.

I must say this whole thing makes me rethink my storage....and pisses me off.

While I think most of us are quite uncomfortable at how things have and even are going down in regard to how certain things are being done in high river, I am interested in exploring more of the idea of your comment

"rethink your food storage"

Would you be willing to consider explaining your thoughts on this ?

Has this made anyone else rethink theirs?

Do you think it would be ok if I used some of the posts on here and started a new thread on the emergency laws on the general board? Not everyone would read this thread and I think it would be something that the whole group would be interested in.

I know I was shocked.

Definitely an area that needs exploring. Anyone looking at the Gtwenty debacle will remember different emergency laws that were trotted out and abused. Still shocked that chief blair still has his job.

Solution: Just have two safes. One that's obvious with your old crappy rifle and a second that's not so obvious with the better equipment. If they ask if you have more or 'know' that you have more then tell them it's at your friends cabin up north. Problem solved.

Hi che

I had that same thought to tell the truth, that it might be worth having two safes, different floors, etc, have a metal locking trunk upstairs that is normally blankets etc but in a pinch can be emptied, and used as a safe locking solid metal box..

but to a point you are not just talking about having two safes? one for each floor, If I am reading it right, its more like the easy to find safe and the not so.. that would work to.

Hi che

I had that same thought to tell the truth, that it might be worth having two safes, different floors, etc, have a metal locking trunk upstairs that is normally blankets etc but in a pinch can be emptied, and used as a safe locking solid metal box..

Hmmm, I'm a little confused but I think you have my initial intention as the correct one.

Safe 1 - Obvious Safe Storage: Completely compliant in terms of firearms laws and the spot within your house where you would most likely store them.

Safe 2 - Hidden: Again, completely compliant where firearms storage is concerned, however, very difficult to get to and highly concealed.

Ignorance or lack or memory isn't a crime the last time I checked. The real question is: Are you required to disclose the location of all your firearms to an officer? The answer may be yes, however, due to the dramatic events and distress that you're feeling as a result of the current disaster you may feel overwhelmed by the whole situation. This, of course, may inadvertently cause you to disclose the location that you're familiar with without resistance while forgetting everything else so that they can quickly move on to the next residence. Because the second location, well....hasn't been touched for months (or years) - as you could state - and could confidently defend for any number of reasons due to the circumstances.

(Deceitfully) Be up front:
"Hello Officer, here are my firearms, I also have a CZ or SKS but they're stored at the cabin up north."

Agree with their situation
"I'm really glad you're doing this. It's really great knowing that people won't be running around rampant with guns."

Add a confused/victim mentality:
"....I don't know. I'm so worried about what to do next. That's all I can think about...."

Divert or Redirect the situation:
"I don't know. This whole situation is messed up. This is all I have here...now. How many other houses do you have to check on this street? Shouldn't you be moving on or checking them as well? I think (pothead/crazy)wife-beater) neighbor 'X' has firearms..."

Bottom line: Giving your firearms away to anyone is giving away your control over any situation. Prepping is about putting the control of your own self-preservation into your own hands. This includes deciphering ways to deceive officials through their channels. Using the information in this post could be one way but I would never do it 🙂
