When I look at all the new housing popping up around Kamloops, I can’t help but notice how close they are to each other. In the winter during a grid down situation how would people keep themselves warm in their homes? Would they be making small fires in their home or bring their BBQ’s inside? If one house goes up in flames it will easily spread to the next one and so on. You could see whole neighborhoods destroyed by fire. Having spent many years in the cold I know how to stay warm and have the gear to do so. Does the average person have the proper gear and knowledge? I would guess not. If you are going to bug in during the winter, having something simple like a Coleman stove and lantern would make all the difference in the world and can be used safety inside as a source of heat. Proper ventilation and keep the naphtha outside of course. If anyone has other ideas on how to heat a home without burning it down I’m all non frostbitten ears.

Fireproof window insert for when you remove a window on the main floor. $99 princess auto wood stove. Some double wall stovepipe. At least 1 90 degree elbow. 150 bucks of delivered firewood. 1 pkg of strike anywhere matches from Superstore.

Cheap insurance.

Ihwas. I hope you will forgive me taking over your post for a second so I can remind everyone that has wood stoves, If you haven't done it already this year, get up on your roof and scrub your chimney with a brush to clean out the creosote. DO IT NOW before the snow. If you don't have a brush, A rag wired onto a willow pole is better than nothing. My apologies for not badgering everyone in the spring but I keep putting off this and now was a time since the subject came up. Only you can prevent Chimney fires. We now return you to your regularly scheduled Ihwaz

I have a Tactical Harness and I have a Tool Belt. The Tool Belt is more Useful.

There have been many stories of apartment building fires.
I've been following a few of them locally.

NOTE: Many apartment buildings DO NOT allow storage of flammable fuels, e.g. propane, etc., on balconies or in the units.
And, if you're thinking "don't tell, if not asked" and a fire happens which is your fault, your insurance is considered VOID.

Kerosene heaters can be had for as little as $200.00 brand new at Crappy Tire.
Most of them these days have a feature that extiguishes them if they tip over.

Oh ya...
C5, thanks for the reminder!

I never did like winter, everything all frosted and covered in snow, post card scenic but ultimately deadly. Where walking from place to place take at least 5 times the effort, avoiding slipping and failing on hidden ice fields or having to wad your way through hip high snow drifts. Forget about uphill both ways, still trying to open the front door, shovelling out a path while still being snowed on or having to tunnel through it all later. If someone were to visit, warm drinks and cans of soup; of course; i`d never say no to help in this environment; but won`t be out there offering much of it either. Sitting by my fireplace in the boonies. At least I won`t have to defend against intruders of malicious intent, Saskatchewan we`ll see them stumbling in a week in advance. Offering true hill-billy directions to the nearest nowhere, a look, smile and wink; all preformed flawlessly through the butt of my rifle scope. No gas, power or telecoms; screw the wheel and give me a sled to pull. Rabbit footed stumbling to literately gather firewood by the cord. We`ll never go thirsty up here in canada, non flowing fresh water completely covers all, the grand yearly flood begins; and no sir! that boat won`t help us now.

Never underestimate the power of free! If someone has deemed something valueless, yet U see value in it; Then you've already made a profit and savings!
