Hi, Im from the west kootenays, and have been prepping for many years. We are on the ultimate of low incomes....disability; but it is amazing what one can do with little money. There was a fuel spill north of us a couple of months ago. We heard about it late in the evening,so put out fresh food and water for the cats and checked our BOB before going to bed. The fire department came banging on our door at 4am. All we had to do was grab our bag and go. To make a long story shorter, after 10 hours hanging around the reception centre, breakfast and lunch provided,we were told we could go home.....just do not use any water from the river. We have a spring and a large storage container, so figured we would be fine. It was a warm day, the tomato plants needed water, so got the watering can and went to the tap....hardly any pressure,oh,oh. ..We had a split valve on the tank and had lost 1000gals of water, WELL, time to get out the stored water. It was nearly two weeks before we were given the go ahead to use the river water to fill the tank. The spring had just quit running, so even after repair there was nothing going into the tank . Once we could use river water, filling the tank was simple ; the tank was filled within an hour, bleach added , we were ready to go.........so......remember always have a backup for your backup.

Good example to prove a point (many points actually!), prepping isn't just for doomsday! Thanks for sharing.
