Exactly. Most threats won't be extraordinary. Your biggest threats are the basics. Starvation, dehydration, and the elements. Thats not to say that you shouldnt prepare for this type of thing. But if your basics arn't covered then you won't survive long enough to worry about raiders and canibals anyway. How many of you can make a fire with out a bic? Ever use a piece of flint and a striker? No no no. Im not talking your "flint" you bought at the camping store that you scrape your knife along and it showers your fire starter with ten thousad sparks. I mean a REAL piece of flint. A piece of rock that you strike with a steel striker resembeling a pair or brass knuckles, and you're lucky to get three sparks out of a strike. Let me tell you, that is a REAL skill and those are the type of skills people should be focusing on. Even ten year olds can shoot guns. I can count on one hand the number of 40+ year olds Ive met capable of getting a fire going without a bic. That's a fact.
How the heck am I going to re-enforce my debris hut, to stave off the masses of cannibal raiders? btw .... are couch potatoes good eating? Are they the same as home fries?
That's the question I think we're all afraid people will start asking in a bad situation 😉 I hear there's a restaurant in Nigeria where you could go find out.
You don't need to reenforce your debris hut. 99% of the population is physically unable, or too lazy to ever make it to your debris hut. Especially when carrying thousands of rounds of ammo.

😀 (Your dusting off old memories asking that question) I'm in my 50's and used to light my chainsaw on fire just to light a cigarette(during a nic fit). I worked in the bush(yup, I kil't alot of trees)and you just tip your chainsaw over to let gas spill out the vent hole.
1. Remove the sparkplug,
2. Reconnect and ground the plug by the spill and pull!.
3. Chainsaw lights up, light your smoke
4. Tap out the flame with a glove
Now I know you city folk figure this unsafe but us country folk do this kinda stuff all the time and no one has got hurt yet doing it(so don't even....) 😀 😀
And since they quit making decent wooden matches, the way around a failing bic...is to have 2, or 3, or 4 like I do cause they don't take up any more room than a flint and their friggin cheaper than flints!
At my age, I'm not a quite a couch potato, but I am more a computer nerd than most around here! I don't go ice fishing anymore cause it's boring! But I light a fire bout every day in the winter cause I'm cold otherwise. I can light a fire outdoors in the middle of a rainstorm but am usually smart enough to not be caught out in the rain, and if I am, I'm usually reaching for a gas can first. Folks complain about the mosquitos up her alot but note they don't come after me as much...that's because I eat an orange before I go and have repellent for those who don't know better. Yet if SHTF, I'll stink like smoke the most cause the bugs hate that too(that was for those who were about to jump on me with a trick question.....).
I'm applying sarcasm (with a bit of knowledge for flavor) at this point to refute that all of us are not totally ignorant! Many likely perform fairly well outdoors but never played with a flint so may feel diminished by your challenge. I've played with enough flints that I know my preferences are a better option. I also wrap most of my bic's with often large amounts of duct tape. This keeps em dry, makes them easier to find in a BOB and I'm betting I can use that tape somewheres too!
PS: I prefer to read the witty comebacks over sarcasm anyday 😀 😀 😀
I stay in the woods
people of the city are likely to remain in the city, too far
it will be more my neighbor who want my equipment and my food
but they know me,
they know that if they come to rob me, it will be in trouble,
peace and love
What are all your preps worth if you have not the ability to enforce your right of ownership? Gonna call the police? Gonna pray?
Miko and Garl, sounds like u think like I do. You are exactly right. City ppl will.stay in city. At least at first. The city is where raiders will target. It is all about worth. The best defense is to remain unseen. In the bush you can disapear. Brush up on mantracking skills. Learn how to hide your tracks. Take the high ground. It is easier to defend and harder for people to get to. Make them work to get to your posistion. It will be more worth it for someone to head into the bush to hunt deer then it will be to hunt me.
Over the weekend I went camping in the bush, and when night time fell we practiced moving through the bush silently, and sneaking up on camp. Not an easy skill!

Prepper not mean prepare to fight

That's what I like to see. Thinkers working on solutions. When I lived in Calgary and could no longer afford to drink and party, I looked for cheap distractions. As a bow hunter, you have to practice daily and I'm not much into paper punching at indoor archery lanes(which also cost money). I went around to the local farms on the perimeter of the city and asked if I could shoot their gophers. One finally said yes but that I couldn't shoot his deer later in the year...
The philosophy of killing these little fellas is that they are equivalent to a heart/lung shot on big game. As any creature, I had to learn how to hunt them to achieve success. If any of you wish to follow this practice, here's what I learned:
1/ don't waste your time waiting for the gopher to come back up out of the hole. He will likely come out another instead.
2/ shoot Judos' so they won't hide under the grass so easily
3/ use florescent green nocks on all your arrows as they are the easiest to spot in the bush or grass....really!
4/ aim low....if they are in a hole, chew out the 1st inch in front of the hole as they can duck so fast that you will miss often. I bend arrows this way but they don't get away from the arrow 😆
5/ shoot only 1 arrow, study its spot last seen, then retrieve it...you'll lose far less arrows
6/ Keep walking around and shoot what you see. Don't waste time waiting....I got alot more when I started doing this.
1st time I went out, I got 0. second time I got 1. 3rd time -18. The highest I ever got was 74 in 2 1/2 hours. That is what happens when you finally have the prey figured out. I'm not that great an archer! I've had plenty others outshoot me, especially in the lanes. This is what practice gets you!
Also I invited persons I considered I might wish to hunt with. This was my secret domain....invite a friend and he eventually tells 2 friends...and so on....until the farmer kicks you off his land! I invited them so I could watch them and pick up techniques, etc that they might have. I also get to see how they stalk. We would stalk the deer when we saw them, not to shoot just for practice. One of those tricks I picked up was to tie a piece of thread to each broadhead(or judo). This was a quick way to see wind direction while stalking. Not so handy in the bush but great on the prairies.
Hope you picked up some tips!

Prepper not mean prepare to fight
I don't consider that I prepare for battle with my fellow man. I would like to think that I, through pre-planning, will never have to consider the option of taking from others, that which is not mine. Hopefully, things will never be so bad that I will ever have to shoot a fellow human(for I would have to justify that with God in the end), but likely could do so if I could morally justify my actions to my own conscience. I have considered the placement of that line according to my own beliefs and would trust my own instincts to guide me the rest of the way. In that way, I consider myself mentally prepared as I can get.
I do not wish to witness barbaric acts that man is capable of (especially in overcrowded cities) as I have witnessed enough to doubt it would be pretty. If I prepare for something that never happens, all the better as I dread that day in which it could! Yet most animals in nature go thru great rituals to avoid being targeted as prey.....they all would likely consider not taking the time to prepare against such things as suicidal... !
" it is better to have and not need, then to need and not have"!
You may be right Knuckle
but I travel to canada and the united states
and I often remained in the warm sector
in red light
I frequented junkie, the pusher, make a transaction
I rented a room in hotels not too recommendable
my roommate was poor people who steal or beat travelers to eat or put some drugs in the arm
but during all those years, I noticed that talk was accentuate your aproach to get by without a knife in the back
I do not Said that we should not know how to defend themselves and be ready to do it, but often you can get away without violence
everyone knows that violence attracts violence
I still think that we can make it without violence
maybe I'm dreaming, but I'd rather dream than a nightmare
peace
I too hope that Canadians stay civil and hopefully reflect on how folks survived in the dirty 30's. But the world now holds a much larger population, one that is far less prepared for survival. Their skillsets have been dulled by distractions such a arcade games and television. And as you pointed out, the weak become targets of those less weak...Prepping is likely defined as "to prepare"....thus only limited by how far one's imagination takes you down each road of possibilities.
A consideration often ignored by many though today, is the possibility that the God will step in....if so, you might be absolved of many sins, but I'm betting the "Thou shall not kill" one is still a biggy ! I hope many remember this detail before deciding to go Rambo.
you're right, people have played on their console from their youth
but when the time will be played for real in real life
many will be frozen by fear,
firstly they will freak out, just the fact that their website and phone no longer work,
