Secrecy and security is important for preppers for a couple of reasons. The least important reason is that most people would rather keep their heads in the sand and their first reaction is to wonder if you are off your meds. The other reason is that if TSHTF or in the event of TEOTWAWKI those people will pull their heads out of the sand and come looking for you to feed them.
One way to get a prepper group together might be to wait until the news services come out with a major disaster somewhere in the world. Then, when friends or co-workers start taliking about it you can feel them out. Bring some of the other major threats to the world into the conversation. From there you should be able to tell from their reactions which of your friends or co-workers to talk about prepping with. I think you'd be surprised how many closet preppers are out there. Just don't come on too strong at first. Think of it like a budding romance. If it's working then the further you get into it the stronger it'll get.
GOOD LUCK and don't quit.

I am fully aware of keeping my specific preparations and plans private. This is a rather important point for me.

But I still feel that I - and likely others! - would benefit from having a chance to meet up and chat, even if it is just generalities for our locale. No revealing of OPSEC details required!

I recently joined the BCSOS group on meetup.com They seem to be actively trying to get together, so if others are interested that may be a way to go. They say they're based out of the Port Coquitlam area. I'm out further west than that in the Lower Mainland area. Regardless, for now that seems to be the only option I've found. Perhaps we can still find a way.

I'm in the Salmon Arm area but hope to move near Revelstoke this year.
I notice there are different levels of preppers, I tend towards the 'know your local roots and plants and be away from a city' mindset.
I belong to the local Transition Town here (SiT) and Transition Towns may be a good source of connecting with people that do things locally, such as 100 mile diet, encouraging bees/bats, medicinal herbs, etc; back to the basics stuff.
I think a get-to-gether would be nice in Spring or Summer; just a casual meet out at a Lake for a picnic kinda thing. 😛

Well, like Vanislemom ...I am here in Victoria. I'd like to meet up with some others if the opportunity came about. Even a casual coffee somewhere central where we can exchange ideas , no need to reveal individual locations if that is beyond anyone's comfort zone.

DrDragon , Shuswap is a gorgeous area! A close friend comes from there so I have spent a lot of time in those parts. I'd always said if I wasn't living on the Island that would be the place I would go. It is the best of both worlds, country living but amenities of town. Lot's of old time skills/off-gridders around there too...

Hello; I am new on this site having just discovered it. I am a pepper. Have been for 40 years or more on a limited scale. But now with the serious economic situation in the USA that we are soon going to get the fall out from, and the removal of any moral responsibility from a majority of our so called civilized population I am going to get very serious about it. I will be posting here as the urge comes upon me. I have lots to say but will be discreet. I do not mind sharing with other peppers because we will all be prepared to survive. But the ones who are not will be wanting to take what we have. I am prepared to protect what I have but I would rather not have to do so. Much better to remain in the shadows and just observe the chaos. If there is a meet and greet and it is in the central part of our province I would be inclined to attend if it is at a convenient time for me. I live in the north central interior. Keep your powder dry. Bear.

I am new to the forum . I have a small farm in the Fraser Valley, garden organically with a permaculture orientation , and have started looking at prepping more seriously. I seem to have a bit of a doomer mindset as I see serious challenges converging with rising competition for scarcer resouces and all of it to the detriment of our environment. I have been seriously stirred by the risks of the nuclear power and other developments like GMO's . Both are abhorent to me and as my understanding of why the world turns as it does with corporate greed reigning supremely, I am feeling a need to turn away from it and be more subversive .

WE HAVE 5 IN OUR IMMEDIATE GROUP. PEOPLE I HAVE WORKED AND HUNTED WITH FOR YEARS. PEOPLE I HAVE TRUSTED MY LIFE WITH AND WHO COVERED MY BACK. NO SURPRISES. ALL THESE 5 HAVE SEVERAL FAMILY OR CLOSE FRIENDS AS WELL. IF IT EVER HITS THE FAN, WE WILL NOT BE LOOKING TO BABYSIT ANYONE. IF YOU HAVE NOT PREPARED WELL, YOU ARE S.O.L. SO LEARN WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW. NOW. I WAS BORN SOMEWHERE IN NORTHERN CANADA, WE HAD A WOOD STOVE AN OUT HOUSE. A STREAM FOR WATER(we finally got an artisan well). AND YES, I WALKED FOR SEVERAL MILES TO SCHOOL,UNLESS I WENT HUNTING OR FISHING. PREPPING HAS BEEN A LIFELONG EXPERIENCE SOME PEOPLE ARE JUST NOT UP TO THE TASK. OTHERS WILL THRIVE . PREPARE NOW. N.N

I am up for meeting people in Victoria or even just talking/networking with others that live on the Island.

I may be up for a get-together sometime in the next few months. I'm in Coquitlam now but I'm moving out to the Fraser Valley in March. My hope is to be up near Shuswap in a year or two. I'm new to prepping (just over this last year) and would love to connect with others to learn from and chat with.

I tried looking up that BCSOS meetup group and I couldn't find it?
