mountain man you are the man thank you so much those have helped alot
i love this site another thing i'm getting is the crovel from the doomdays prepper show its 100 $ but i think it will be worth it

Howdy Duffman,

No problem. If we don't help each other, then what is the point of being here. Keep us posted on your progress and by all means post your questions, when they come up. Someone here will have an answer.

Cheers,

Mountainman.

PS - Okay. I just got back from YouTube. I had no idea what the hell a Crovel was. Now I have learned something. If money is tight, IMHO, I would not spend more than $25 on that tool. Much less $100 or $199. If you need a folding shovel search out an entrenching tool or a tri-folding shovel. A wrecking bar/gooseneck 24" - 36" should not set you back more than $15 to $20 for a high quality one at the hardware store, better yet hit a garage sale get one for $3 - $5. I would need to know more of why you need this tool, to make a better suggestion. If you want a shovel that can split wigs, you might want to research the Spetnatz Shovel. Although, an good quality bearded axe will do a better job. If you are looking for a wonder tool that will do it all, be forewarned, any multi-tool has the potential of not doing any of its functions well. If you need a digging tool I would recommend the mini-shovel by Bond (fibreglass handle and steel blade) or the Troybilt mini-shovel (hardwood handle). The Bond was $10.95 at Peavey Mart. The Troybilt was $17.95 at Canadian Tire. Both work well for digging and are compact and fit in vehicle no problem. For others Crovel = part CROwbar + part shoVEL.

duffman, what i have found to be a good start to prepping is to start with the three day plan, or a weekend camping trip idea. start with the idea that you want to go "camping" and plan and start getting your preps to go with that theme. its just a start, but i hope this helped

Hey Duffman, not sure if you're still checking this post, but I'm also fairly new, and have just gotten into shooting as well. When you make it over to the mainland, feel free to message me, I'd be more than happy to take you to my gun range to let you get used to shooting. I know it can be an intimidating thing to start, especially on your own. That said, I totally agree with the bow post above, it's something I've also been looking into. Can never have enough skills in case the worst happens. Good luck.

Well, hope all works out for u in van. What a hell hole, can't wait to get back to the real world. Money is the root of all evil, but we need it, question is how much?. I suggest a good 4x4 for a sailboat trade, and a small plot of land near river, lake, and such. If you ave a trade apply this and get to a safer place, you will never make it back to the island by car in the event of an emergency.

The weapons issue is not even open for dicussion, i worked as Private Security in Africa, people will do very bad things to each other for very little. You must have a weapon to protect your family or bad people will take both from you. Bear spray is a joke, i,ve seen people who like this stuff, and keep coming. Get a weapon , get trained, get your wife trained, don't play.

I wsh you well, good luck

To all New PAL owners, get a Ruger 10/22 and few thousand rds, this is an exceelnt firearm and anyone can use it. You can shoot anything from Deer to Grouse., and protection if need be. CCI Stingers are good defense rds and basic lr for hunting rds. When u get the cash get another, do this fast as The US is eating up the market of these, make our supply very low. Might also want to get some Butler creek mags 30rdrs. Next .12 ga pump just a basic model and some # 4 shot loads, and as cash permits oo buck is next.

Take care and good luck.

That's great duffman! Stay on the island! I just traded my SKS rifle in for a Ruger 10/22 Take Down!!!! I haven't even tried it yet, I can't wait! The 'Take Down' version is that it brakes down in half with one button so it packs in your day pack! So cool.
Duffman, get your PAL!

.22 is a good light pack gun and easy to pack ammo.

But I very much like my 12ga . I have a few. shorty Pistol grips ((legal length)) .

My newest is a 13" 12ga pump, a dominion arms grizzly. I love that shotgun ! Nice and easy to pack around and was only $300. On top of all that. its a clown of the 870 remington, so after market parts can be swapped. I put every round I had through it and it worked flawlessly. very happy with it!

hey Hammer I think the Take Down is $400.00. And good luck finding one! If you want on you'd better try hard cause what my gun store guy said was there's a massive back order going on right now at Ruger (due to the massive arms build up going on right now in America) So if you want one you'd better find one and soon! I haven't even fired mine yet (work and family) But I'm sure from what I've seen online that they are much the same as the regular 10/22.
I got my Ruger 10/22 in Campbell River at Grandlunds.

Good man Duffman! Get your unrestricted PAL for starters anyways. It takes some time after you do the course to apply to the Police to do the required background check on ya. Yes you need the PAL to purchase any firearm - I'm sure there is some exceptions. Not sure about the crossbow. If $ is tight then I'd wait to but the rifle.

Nemos, I too have a Grizzly! I got it from canadaammo! I got the pistol grip for it too. But if I put it on then it would be prohibited:)
