Just a brief for everyone on how a little preparedness goes a long way...

Fraser Valley here - Hope to Abbotsford has had some nasty freezing rain the last day and abit.
In the last few days in Chilliwack we've accumulated abit under 2 feet of snow, then it warmed up and melted, then flash froze overnight and last night we had a solid 6 hours of freezing rain. Today wind gusts 50km/h +, and the local authorities and municipal government has advised everyone to stay inside and avoid travel.

To top the cake with some frosty icing, BC Hydro has been installing the new "Smart Meters", and the tech botched ours so we've been living off a pair of 60w Solar panels and a MotoMaster PowerPak/Inverter for all our power, including heat for almost 48 hours:) Yay!

I did pick up this nifty little Solar strip charger off EBay that I've been able to use to keep my IPad charged however, and wireless internet has been graciously donated by our neighbor!
And to think everyone called me crazy...

Good preparations! Yes most non-preppers think we're all crazy until the time we need our preps! So you don't suggest anyone get the smart meter?

Well, unfortunately it's not really optional anymore. Some folks have delayed it by means of a literal standoff with the installation technicians. I know a handfull of people who have threatened to physically remove anyone on their property because they are so against the Smart Meter.
I myself am not a fan of it - and for more reasons than the recent bungle it got me into. However - some things are beyond our control. You have to pick your battles, right? It seems that the power of protest and petition is null and void these days.
The more you can rely on yourself as opposed to anyone else the better, and that applies to your utilities as well! I'm sure most people in the prepper community are aware of the fragile state of our power grid and the rising utilities prices around the world. Explore alternate energy! You don't need fields or extensive space or budget. Every little thing you do to become as self reliant as possible puts you a mile ahead of the other guy!

Thanks FV_Armouries needed to hear that right now. Sorry about your situation but it's a good little reminder. You're a blessing.

Glad to be of some kind of assistance! With so much emphasis on stockpiling foodstuffs and planning movement routes, sometimes we may overlook the most important piece of equipment - mental preparedness. Keep your mind clear and focus on what needs to be done, and hopefully with enough practice the rest will be as second nature as your commute to work everyday.
