Hi all my fellow BC preppers...
I am looking for some real info on what I should build to be able to become less dependant on our Hydro company. I have been looking at both types of power generation and think I would like to go with both types ( solar and wind ) but really need someone that has this working for them to guide me on where to buy and brands. I have 3 acres to install panels and unrestricted south exposure and 6' security fencing going up slowly this spring/summer.

Sounds like a fun project....

I have about 2000 trees to get down before solar becomes viable, so I am a little jealous:)

I'm jealous you have that many trees. Most of trees here are not on my burnable list...(cedar, poplar wild cherry).
I hope to get 8 panels mounted and 1-2 turbines for those dark winter days but don't want to buy the wrong ones. Have about $2K to spend.. ideas ??

heres a link to where 4x4 /rv ppl talk about various alternative energy sources

if you hunt around here you will find its a good way to figure out wants vs needs . they discuss energy usage and how it effects battery charge and life. I am not sure of how much of an energy load your planning on having so it can help you figure out what you will need

For wind , what I've considered is an alternator with fan on an antenna /topped tree as a start. fairly simple to rig and run.
