become gorilla fighters?
Good grief !... what kind of nightmare scenario will turn people into gorilla fighters ?. Should that happen we would all have to turn into guerilla fighters to fight them off 🙂
I would advice to stay put. Part of good prepping is to disappear into the environment. For myself that would involve securing secluded place to start becoming self sufficient through gardening, hunting etc. I totally agree with goldie. Eventually people would need to settle down somewhere to carry on an existence.
As for hunting enuff. I have to say most hunters who actively hunt today knows how to hunt and dress a harvested animal. For the average Joe on the street who has never done any hunting but fancy it come shtf I agree with you. I am not sure that animals knows when its hunting season or not all I can say is that for me I have not had any issues or streaks of bad luck hunting so for me they don't seem to become scarce due to hunting season start. In fact I see most animals when the rut sets in for obvious reasons :).
Which ties into your rape comments. Sadly I agree with knuckles that in times with breakdown in society a few individuals will go down that route as they now can do so without fear of society coming down on them. We see this pattern everywhere society is challenged around the world. But to suggest that men cannot be trusted is perhaps a generalisation too many. Know you group now so you are amongst men you can trust.
The roaming wolf could succeed but I would advice against it. Anyone who has spent time in a war zone will tell you its the most stressful thing ever to sit in a prepared position observing for the enemy. Let alone walking around in no mans land. But as I said it could succeed. Who knows eh ?. The closest to shtf I have been is deployed into Yugoslavia during the civil war and I had the luxury of knowing that when my tour was over I would simply move back to a nice cosy friendly country :).
Who is going to be leading the eviction team foreclosing on properties if the world is in such a bad spot that we even have to think about bugging out or in? I think at that point the bankers will be worrying about their own families and lives. Who owns what will be debatable.
Tinfoilhats, I think this question all depends on what is happening. If it is absolute worst case scenario and a meteor has struck Vancouver and a huge tidal wave is coming and the earth is shaken, then yes you are right. The bankers will have more important things to worry about. But if it is something happening a little slower, then I think it is exactly the bankers who will be coming for your property. Or should I say the politicians who are run by the bankers.Remember the RCMP are not peace officers, but POLICE officers. They are not here to protect me or you so much as they are here to protect politicians and policy. In the case of a disaster they are legally allowed to "acquire or use any land or personal property considered necessary to prevent, respond to or alleviate the effects of an emergency or disaster;"
I suggest everybody reads up on their Federal and Provincial emergency acts:

Farmgal - I tried to get into the women forum but I can't find out how to get permission. Help!
I think we are slowly heading into the SHTF scenario with global warming and countries going bankrupt.
So instead of talking the talk start walking the walk.....
Handle your money well is that new "thing" be it clothes, shoes, latest gadget really needed.
Spend on supplies that will help you survive,
don't talk finding a bug out place.....find it and if you have to purchase something pay it off as quick as you can,
find good clean drinking water....it won't be coming out of your tap any more,
don't talk about making a plan....make one,
don't talk about going to shoot something when you never have....take courses and go and learn what it really is all about,
get your industrial first aide,
learn how to forage in the forest...take a course and practice finding edible plants in the bush,
learn how to garden....how to store and can your harvest. No room for a garden then save seeds put them in the freezer.
learn how to fish....keep your fishing gear simple. Then how to dry or smoke your catch so it will last through the winter.
make sure your dental work is all done..take good care of your teeth,
exercise and get yourself in great shape,
learn how to use an axe...one of your best tools out in the bush,
and the list goes on and on.
Oh and I have a lot of these things done for my "lone wolf" prep. No group and at my age not sure I would be welcome in one but as long as I'm left alone I'll be fine.
Both are a difficult choice for me. I have a large family so being on the move would be no easy task. Bugging in would be hard as well as the houses here are very tightly packed into the area. House fire would prob burn down the whole neighbourhood. The house is not easily defended either with a tenant below and quite a bit of windows to board up. Have 2 locations picked out for bug out locations and am armed to the teeth for bug in if necessary.
The prudent see danger and take refuge but the simple keep going and suffer for it...
I just reread this whole thread and am impressed by the intellectual depth of subject content that has been presented so far. People are not just weighing the merits of staying put or moving, but also breaking down the cause and effect of each decision. This is good stuff! Do a reread and I think you too will be inspired!
I can't imagine that society will fall back to such a state that we will face marauding bandits as we play out the remains of our life as those in Little House on the Prairie. I find the concept that we must all run to the castle and shiver in fear as marauders encircle and starve us out is also unlikely. The basic concept from the TV show Jericho seems more along the acceptable path of logic where small communities would form and likely maintain some sort of local order while creating barter and commerce with it.
Sure lots of city folk will die fighting for the last remains of food and famine will efffect people everywhere to some extent. It is also likely many towns will turn away immigrants as they can see the limits to their own food resources unable to meet a higher population. The system that is presently in place to provide for any city's dense population is a precarious balance act of product an demand. Should this system fail, city folk would have to eventually make this life of death decision which is measured by their own resources on hand. And desperation is measure of how far a person is willing to go to feed their family that next meal.
I continually try to point out that it is easier for country folk to trust due to having known the neighbours much of their lives whereas city folk see neighbours come and go and got to know very few over the years. It is this knowing their neighbours that allow country folk to more easily stand together in times of crisis and not need to form selective groups for just such an event. Their "you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours" mentality also helps them link up with the next community to even create a more unified front for trade and barter. This is how I think much of society will survive most coming events.
This is also how things worked before the creation of large cities. Even the cities won't totally fail. They will still likely hold those who want to claim control of all that surround them. But each cities strength will be measured by those resources that can control. Without electricity, they are doomed. Without transportation, they are doomed. With these 2 factors covered, those within reach of these centers are likely to be controlled by these centers. These resources are what most will fight and die for as our society is already set up to function and provide our daily food and water by means of these resources.
Now although I live in the middle of nowhere, we do have hydro dams nearby that would quickly become part of a power struggle and could even become a focal point for military presence due to this. Add onto that that we have the largest gold producing mines in North America not too far away and even my location could become a heat score. Yet with this occupation could come the security of employment when many other regions wouldn't have this in commodity. So those who still worked for these industries would likely have a better existence compared to those who didn't. Others in the area would eventually benefit somewhat from the trickle down effects from this industry. We would have electricity but no fuel unless it was trucked up as usual. Commerce. Even that would come in time if they need our resources enough. Chances are that it would be a fascist society more than before as human rights would be far less than those of today, but still not barbaric at the core!
Maybe now others can see better the picture I paint!
Upon a reread of the above, I forgot to conclude where I was going with this thought process. 😕
I mention how even my area could be affected due to it's resources an an example. Each person should therefore factor in nearby resources when deciding to either stay put or move. Much of this should be preplanned now with consideration added in as to how future events could change the local economy. Would the area have employment and security or would this bring more trouble than it is worth? Can the area support growth in population or is there too much likelihood of just being turned back? I've also mentioned before that those city folk who relocated and settled before a crisis would be far better off being accepted as part of the community compared to those who came after.
There are alot of factors to consider as to stay put or move. Yet times show that decisions and backup plans should be weighed and even acted upon soon in some instances.
I'd have to say that my circumstances are maybe a bit different than some on the thread, I have a blended family of 6 kids. There will be some tough choices for those that are not mine such as, who they will choose to stay with etc. Of course I am willing to take on the responsibility as I have thus far but it is going to be very difficult to bug in or out as far as I can see. The plans are in place for either eventuality but I think it will be very hard to feel safe in either scenario.
The prudent see danger and take refuge but the simple keep going and suffer for it...
Wow. I have 3 and that was a handfull enough. The daughter is equal to 2 IMHO so that would have been 4 boys logically 😯 😉
I wrote a program for food supply and I think I went to 4 kids...I'd have to rewrite some of it for you to be factored in properly 😆
http://internationalpreppersnetwork.net/viewtopic.php?f=69&t=4917 (found it 3 pages of posts back). Sheesh...it is only for 3 under menus. maybe time to work on that again.....
I figure that I should have a place ready for the kids and grandkids if SHTF and they can't afford to remain in the city anymore. I hope that you have at least some responsible older ones to help out with the younger ones now. With the expenses of kids these days, having 6 is likely easier if you were living rural and growing food instead as it would be worth the effort and you'd give them daily work to do instead of them draining your wallet with daily entertainment. Do you live in the city or country?
Now you got me messing with that program again.... 😆 I wish some of you would throw ideas at me about how to arrange that program as it gets complex trying to do a layout that I think others would still understand. I find looking back now, that even I have to wonder where I was going with ideas as I never followed thru with some and now they seem confusing. The pull down menu was logically the meal planning aspect, but trying to relate the meals out of the chaos I created elsewhere is why I set it aside.... any ideas folks? 💡
Best advice Knuckle is K.I.S.S
Keep it simple sam
Well I don't know how I can help with the program Knuckel..lol I just pile food and figure if it comes down to it, the kids will eat what they are fed. I understand the calorie count though. The choices out there for high calorie preps that will last a while seem ltd. It seems a little overwhelming to think about that on a scale that I'm dealing with. The money is always tight as you can imagine. Bills, Bills, and more Bills.. We make ok money and try to be balanced. The preps are very important to me and I find it frustrating that I cant get to where I want to be as quick as I would like. Just a wee bit impatient I guess. But I would like to be on my game in case it happens quicker than I think it will.
The prudent see danger and take refuge but the simple keep going and suffer for it...
I think in the Stay Put or Move scenario, many will have to just wait and see as to what pressures the event brings with it. Many folks won't be prepared as we often mention here. Many folks won't find allies in their endeavors until a situation occurs to thrust people into seriously making these considerations.
The bottom line is that you and your preparations will be proof of your forethought to such a possible event from occurring. This will give you respect in others eyes that you might otherwise not acquire. What you do with this elevated position of stature is up to you.
- Do you become the backbone of something stronger with moral conscience, or does your example portray every man for himself mentality instead?
- Will you willingness to share your resources be seen a a sign of weakness or that of the making of a decent moral leader during a time of crisis?
It is common for the majority to wish to just follow because they then expect to have less decisions to make which will eventually determine their own fates. But many will fight for that seat of authority, even if it they are unsuited to the task. And once you fall into line with others on that ladder of leadership, many won't accept your later advancements easily. This is human nature at it's core stages...confidence and knowledge are the traits that others will first look for in a leader during a crisis, and in that order!
Unwillingness to share that which you have will often make you a target for others to unite against and someone will step up and point this detail out quickly, so you have to act first....of this much, I am certain!
(I bet many wish now they never read this last post) 🙄 😆 😎
Stay or Flee? One will have to evaluate the situation first. If it's an earth quake and the power grid goes down, do you stay put and hunker down and enjoy the prepps you've squired away or run to the bug out location and live off what you have there? I'll bet most people have more supplies at home than at their bug out location.. Do you think your stuff will be safe in your home when you are not there? Can you move all your prepps with you when you leave? The most likely scenario if the power goes off is it most likely wont be out for ever and law enforcement will still be there, the military will also be there eventually. Your home is your first refuge, your bug out location is your second choice. Should there be a total collapse of social order. Hell I'm outta here. Oh one thing most people don't think about. Most likely there will be implementation of martial law, movement from municipality to municipality may be restricted to control break downs in civil order. Bridges are great barriers to restrict movement. So if your bug out vehicle can't swim you may want to plan your bug out location accordingly with this in mind.

So true..... Gotta know when to get out of Dodge, and have a place to head to, if it isn't too late.
You've Got To Be Tough, If You're Going To Be Stupid.
Well today was a reel eye opener for most Canadians. Guess what people we are not immune to terror attacks, home grown or not. Things will never be the way they were yesterday. When you scare the government every one suffers.
Whole sections of Ottawa were put in lock down No One could get in or out of Dodge. The media what a farce they were just looking for and making up shit. The police and the specials couldn't get the citizenry to get back indoors and out of the streets. What kind of dumb ass goes out to see who's using a firearm. I wonder how many people had a B.O.B. in their office. "Oh we all shared every ones lunches" some air head said in an interview. Sorry and Screw you, my lunch and supplies are for me. Remember what disaster Dave always says have a stash in your office and car. How many have heard that and not listened? MOST.
Ok enough of the ranting. Seriously we need to be examples to those around us, ya a lot of them will scoff at us (they're gonna die anyways so don't sweat it) and then again some are going to take thing seriously,if you can lead just one person get involved with the program that's usually a family that will survive and that my friends is what makes it worth the effort.
