Susannah wrote "A problem shared is a problem halved." This is oh so true. Last year when we were suffering forest fires in our area and were facing evacuation the words of support from members of this forum were extremely comforting. Once you experience the wrath of severe weather of the consequences resulting from it you realise how small all human endeavours truly are. Grace know this, you are in our thoughts.

It does not matter where you live in the world the climate has changed. The greatest change is its unpredictability. Never knowing what to expect is a major reason to keep on preparing so that you truly are ready for anything.

Thank you ICRCC 🙂 Honestly, without this amazing community of people I would not be doing as well as I am. I have received such wonderful supportive posts and messages, and these have given me alot of strength to face up to the situation everyday and a very welcome distraction from looking outside at the devastation surrounding us and animals suffering everywhere. Living in such an isolated rural area as we do, it's not as though you can just pop next door to chat to someone about it, I do not have any of my family left here, and I pretty much live a very private preppers life with my husband anyway. Our capital city, Wellington, only has 20 days of water left!! Will it wake people up more to what is happening and they make changes too? ...I don't know. All I do know for sure is that I will be preparing more and changing alot of things that I felt would be more than enough for our needs that have now proven to be far less than adequate.

It's a very hard way to learn though, isn't it Grace...... I admire your courage in expressing how you are feeling about this dreadful situation and for getting the word out to others in this forum. I hope you stay safe and please keep us informed of how you are going. It probably feels like the drought will never end, and with the threat of bushfire and constant exhaustion taking it's toll as well your emotions will no doubt be in turmoil, yet you are thinking of others and warning us to be aware of the implications this will have on all of us....you are a wonderful lady Grace

I couldn't do it without you ... You give me the strength to deal with it, you make me laugh when I feel like ❗ ... the very least I can do is pass on my own experiences from what I am learning to deal with first hand and hope that it will help others if they are faced with it some day. Susannah, I admire you more and more....you have been through much worse than we have to date with the blazing unbearable heat and terrifying bushfires in Oz and yet you stand your ground in the face of nature doing her best to remind us who is in charge of this planet. YOU are the WONDERFUL lady!!

😳 Thank you for your extremely kind words Grace, but I'm not the one getting the message out to others so eloquently. I've got my fingers crossed for you for this weekend - hopefully you'll get some of that gorgeous "wet" stuff 🙂

Let it rain rain rain rain rain rain!!!! (from a song we sung in grade 5 with very annoying lyrics!) but in this case sung as a prayer for the "gorgeous wet stuff" to fall gently and long.

hugs Grace!!! I think of you often 🙂

Well, this is the worst drought in 72 years for NZ....but your song must have been heard down here Anita 😀 We have had some rain on and off since Sunday morning, the first time in over 4 months in our region. Not alot, but I hope that we are beginning to turn the corner...there will be more hot dry days and loss of the moisture in the pastures this week, but it has so far really lifted the spirits of many of us. ..just to see and feel it again is absolute magic.

Ha..good one ! I had forgotten the times i stood out in a down pour while camping many years ago and had that much missed shower..:) it was some times warmish and others quite briskly refreshing. Gave a real sense of freedom in spirit and body. One of those delicious experiences in living in the wild naturally, even if only for a few months. Also winter camping was fun when younger. A bit trying these days just to keep warm and fed out there using a camp trailer and wood stove. Thanks for the great memories and glad the clouds burst for you all down under.
