Also warnings and watches over most of Canada.
I've been keeping an eye out all afternoon since I noticed the sky changing and the winds picking up. I've got my flashlight right here beside me and a bucket of water sitting in the bathtub - to flush the toilet - just in case the power goes out again. It's already gone out once!
Duck and Cover girl!
More coming for Sunday.
A tornado touched down Friday evening just 60km away from my place....
Going to beef up the wind preps!
What are wind preps?
My house sits in blocks sitting on the ground, with the exception of the extension I built last year, which is resting on concrete pillars down to the frost line or solid rock, whichever came first. I will be using large L brackets to secure the house to the pillars. Also, when I built the extension I used hurricane ties on every second rafter. These are simply metal brackets that connect the rafters to the exterior walls. I will be adding these ties to the existing house in the attic. As for the old section resting on the ground, I will have to figure something out. Also, I have 3 outbuildings that are simply resting on the ground. I figure driving 2 x 4 into the ground around the perimeter and attaching the sheds with some sort of brackets. A trip to the reno center will help me figure things out.
Keeping an eye on the weather too. Just off an on here but when it is on....watch out! And if you think we have it bad, look at upstate New York (adirondacks) on the weather radar, the size of that storm and severity is far worse than here.
Those rainy days you were saving for...may not be quelled by cash.
