Looking at sealing up some stuff in Mylar (first time). I see that Briden has everything I need, and they're just down the road from me. But they only sell oxygen absorbers in packs of 100 for $20. 20 bucks is a few pairs of gloves or a whole mess of Bic lighters (actually it would cover the cost of the rice I'm storing). I'm only planning to do one bucket right now so I don't need 100. And I've read that storing the opened packet is iffy. Is there a place around here to buy a small quantity? Thanks.
Ya, I have the same worries.
Then again, I have been told by people here in the forum that do this, that they store well in sealed mason jars.
Maybe you could find a few buddies to share them with.
Capt.
I have heard quite a few ppl using a hand warmer in buckets, tho personally I have not used one for that purpose. Those sells for approx. $2. per 2 pkg in my area.
I have used a candle in glass/metal containers to deplete oxygen.
As soon as no oxygen, the candle goes out.
Not sure that would be safe in a plastic bucket.
I like the candle cause it can be reused each time you open the bucket.
Plus another use for candle stubs and birthday cake type candles. 😉
A sense of humor is absolutely essential to survival.
Hi Capt,
Hope this can help.
I bought my oxygen absorber and mylar bag (paksafe) at Sorben systemIM PAK Corp. ( very good information on the web site by the way.)
You can place your unused absorber into a mason jar fill with rice for approximately 6 month. I try it for 2 month and it work.
Also, you could take only the quantities you need and resealed the oxygen absorber into the original bag. ( I try and it work)
Also, you could made small mylar bag, place oxygen absorber int it take off the air with an aspirator , sealed the mylar bag and you got small quantities when you need it.
Best Regards.
