Which spices have best health benefits?
Cinnamon had great benefits: it keeps the blood sugar even, some animals hate it, it last indefinitely. It can be used in baking, drinks, and added to water on the woodstove for a festive smell.
They (spice manufacturers??) say that spices last only 6 months but I beg to differ. I've had spices for years that seem to have as much punch as fresh. Like many things, store in dark, cool.
Just thought I would mention for those that do not know...It is a good idea to get a pill holder (the kind with a section for each day of the week) and fill them with the spices you use the most (say when camping like sage, oregano, tyme, rosemary, chilli, garlic powder, cinnamon)...keep in your bug out bag also.
Store the spices that you use on a regular bases.
I use and grow all the spices that Igsbrooks mentioned. I dry them, some I leave whole to grind as I need while others I just turn into a powder.
I think all spices have some health benefit. May I suggest you read a lot on and purchase a good herbal book. I think there are several herb book suggestions posted.
I like whole nutmeg and it keeps almost forever. Just like fresh ground pepper, fresh grated(???) nutmeg is different and it DOES matter. I am having a very hard time finding it in grocery stores and wonder if anyone knows of a chain store that stocks whole nutmeg?
Than= I’d rather be rich than poor.

I'm still using the tin of ground cinnamon from when we moved in over 10 years ago!

Whole nutmeg is available at our local dollar stores in their spice selection, a full bottle with them, so far to date, they have been of excellent quaility when used.

Many spices can be purchased in a more raw form than the powder we are typically used to, and tend to last longer in these forms, and are more versatile.
Often you can use them to grow more of the desired spice as well.
You can store spices in canning jars, and use a JarVac to seal them, using a coffee filter to prevent you vacuum sealer from getting clogged.
All of the above suggestions are great, and I would add mustard seed to a list of must haves, as it has a number of uses both culinary and medicinal.
Dill is a great addition and can be used for preserving as well.
