Hi.. good article but if you do not have the land or the time you can still lower cost and vary diet.. I save all my feed fines make them into a hot mash, cook winter squash thats starting to go bad on the wood stove and mix the two together on cold days.. Chickens love it especially before bed time.. Also sprout oats on large trays (makes a lawn) and feed that.. The sprouting takes a little to get it going but it really cuts feed costs and my birds love it..
